75gr stability in 1-14 twist?

Richard franklin a big hog hunter here in va uses a 14 twist to shoot 75 gr vmaxes but that's out of a 6mm remington ai and running them really hot. My gunsmith said a 14 in a 6mmbr will stabilze up to a 72gr bullet. All I can say is try it. I would try them in my 14 twist br but it loves bart ultra 68gr bullets a lot. I just got back from the range and I had 400yd 3shot groups under an inch and gatorade bottles filled with water stood no chance at 450 you may want to look at all the different 65_68gr specialty bullets. Good luck

i know the 75gr hornady's are a really good hunting bullet and it think they are just so close to the stability limit ill just have to give them a go and see what happens ;D

I have shot 75 V-Max in a 14 twist 6 BR 40-X. Stabilized out to 300 plus
but when I went to 600 they were all over the place. They were on the edge
and lost it somewhere between 300 and 600. I switched to the 65 V-Max with
that twist.

what kind of speeds were you pushing them at? out of a .243 i should have a bit more speed if i could get to 400yds that would be enough for me. ;D

ive read bryan litz's book and it seems strange that bullets become unstabalised before they go transonic. in bryans book it talks about frontal force, from air drag, trying to overturn the bullet. the faster the bullet is going the stronger that force is. rotational speed doesnt slow as fast as velocity therfor stability actually increases at longer range. thats the way i READ it but i havnt had any experience eigther way.

i tryed the 65gr v max and they didnt really perform at all as i was expecting . exit wounds wernt even as good as my .222 :(

It should work just fine. I have shot and grouped 80gr Berger bullets in my 14 twist bartelin 6ppc barrel. Most said it wouldn't work, but it did!! You will just have to try it and see! Lee

bullet stability is helped by shortnessof the bullet itself. if you use the oal of the bullet, check the brand that has the shortest in the weight you want and try,

14x is
bobon the edge for anything over 65-

I have noticed when i push the 75g vmax fairly hard 3,720 fps with my 24in 1 in 10 inch twist 243 groups at 100y tend to be around an inch or more however at 200y they seem to tighten and groups at 250 seem to be in inch and a half range, have yet to try at 300-600y.

that would be a very hot load wouldnt it?? what powder etc are you running?

Load consisted of 46g Varget, Lapua brass, ccibr 75g Molly vmax, Have reduced load to 3,420 fps to help aid barrel life.

All Loadings were with Lapua brass which had been loaded at least 4 times with previous slower load then annealed and now are on 3rd Loading with 46g varget Load, Brass was neck sized with redding comp bushing die, Have noticed no hard bolt extraction or flatterned primer upon firing however i would recomend caution when working up this load as its safe with my 243 rifle but might not be with your own rifle, also noticed no cracking with fired Lapua brass but have noticed a blueish colour on brass which appears after annealing process but the colour has moved up case shoulder to neck which warrants further investigation with borescope to cheak for any possible hairline cracks inside case.

I am using 75 grn V-Maxes in my 1-10 twist chambered in 6x47L.The performance of the projies is great and at 3700 fps terminal performance is devastating
