75 grain A Max vs the 69 grain SMK

Alf, thank you. Doing my level best to get out this afternoon since we finally got a break from the heat here in S Tx. Will report back on the 75 Amax @ 3350 if I can score.

Most of my pals are running the 75 Amax @3000-3150 in thier 223 AIs. They call em' Meat Hammers at that speed. Be interesting to see how it fares a bit faster.

Well, we got out to the lease to do some light work but unfortunately I didnt get a shot at any critters with my 22-250 75 Amax. On the other hand, my buddy and tool and die maker Raymond did score on this bobcat at just under 100 yards. He used a 168 SMK, so this KINDA maybe sorta fits this thread.... Anyway, he sure knocked his socks off. That cat was DRT!

Lets get back to this. I killed this hog on Friday night at 140 yards with my Hart barrel 22-250 running a 75 Amax at 3350 fps. Shot her between the eye and the ear but while she was DRT (cept for some kicking) there was no exit.

I also shot a pig yesterday with my 22BR at 85 yards with a 69 SMK at 3380 and again she was DRT (cept for some kicking) but also no exit. It was too dark to take a picture of that pig since she was black and my camera phone aint got a flash....

I know more of you guys are hunting with 69 SMK and 75 Amax bullets. Let's hear about it.

I load them up for a friend, but all we have shot with them so far is prairie dogs. The Smk is not very explosive and the 75 Amax will give very impressive blow ups most of the time. I can't remember the velocity numbers on the 2 loads but the 69 SMK was somewhere around 3400 and I think the 75 was about 100fps slower. I just screwed a 8 twist 22-250 CBI barrel on this week so I will be trying to figure out something for it using the 75 Amax. I have shot just a few 65 Sierra blems I have trying to figure out a fireforming load and using my once fired (22-250 chamber) Lapua brass, they don't seem to want to form like factory loads did. They are leaving a small amount rounded right at the shoulder so I am going to try some new Lapua and if they form good, I guess I'll anneal the once fired stuff.
My own standard 22-250 runs the 75 grain Amax at 3350 fps.
Barrel twist, length, load recipe and brass longevity report, please ;D

BoilerUP, my Hart barreled 22-250 is 22" long and a 1/9 twist. I am using a max charge of AA XMR4350. I am running winchester brass, and it seems to be holding up well. I cannot speak to longevity as I only have about 400 rounds on this barrel. But it shoots great!

Here's a pic of a pig shot at 200yds with a 75gr Amax 22-243 - 3500fps. Here is the exit wound, bullets looks to have come apart.

entry was single hole, trajectory a lot flatter than I expected, elevation was about 30' higher than target.

The pigs I have shot with the 69gr SMK have resulted in runoffs unless headshot, this one dropped like a bag of hammers, no kicking, nothing.

Yup. Looks like you snapped his neck in 2 pieces for sure. I been shooting them between the eye and the ear and getting alot of kicking. I will have to try BEHIND the ear and see what happens.
