748 and 165gr Fail Safe ?

I have some 165gr Fail Safe and 748 powder I would like to load in my 308 Win.

Anyone have any load data with 748 and 165gr FS in 308 Win.
What was the Original Winchester load data with the 748 and the 165gr Fail Safe in 308 Win ?

From the 2006 Winchester printed data manual, prior to Hodgdon taking over marketing:

748: 42 grains, 2,400fps, 43,800psi maximum load.

Edit: this load is for the 165 FS bullet (CT).

Hornady lists 39.8 grain as starting, 45.8 grain as max in a 22" barrel with their 165 grain interlock and 168 grain match. Start low and watch for signs, I never likes 748 in the Garand in 06 as case volume was too low but the 308 case is smaller.

This sounded familiar to me so I did a little searching in my notes.

One of my .308 Win. rifles, using the 165 Fail Safe was very usable in the 42gr. - 45 gr. range with the 45 gr. being the best for accuracy in my rifle. The most interesting discovery was that when I ran out of the Fail Safe I switched to the Sierra TGK and it took very little to achieve great groups. This combination makes for a good general purpose hunting load.

Thanks
That 42.0 seems to be a low node load.
Thanks again
