700 style action choice

My brother is looking for a high-end 700 sa clone for 6.5x47 or similar build. He is buying an A1-3stock and is looking for advice as to what actions are recommended. He is looking into the Stiller Tac-30, Lawton 7000 series, not sure if the 7500 would fit), Pierce, and Surgeon. We were wondering which action would be the "tightest" and offer the most quality. From the "custom action" page it appears Pierce actions might fit the bill? Comments on the above would be helpful.
thanks

My gunsmith said the best he worked was Borden Alpine. And the Surgeon, he just said when I asked about true/square "just perfect".

That's good to know. We have gotten spoiled with the "feel" of Bat actions around here and are looking for something that has a similar "feel" as the Bat just in a 700 footprint. Also, don't want to break the bank on the build if possible.

The new Stiller PredatorV has a bit less bolt body clearance, about 0.003) than the regular Predator and TAC actions, and a coned bolt, if a RBLP single-shot with a pinned trigger will work. Mine is very slick, but I've never used a BAT so I can't compare directly. The price is right, though, and it fits perfectly into any stock inletted for a Rem 700.

I will add another recommendation for the Borden Alpine action. I have a 6mmBR built on an alpine action and a McM A2 stock that I used to win my states mid-range Fclass championship with. That said, I do not have any experience with the Pierce or Predator actions for a direct comparison.

I forgot to mention, I have two rifles built around a Stiller Predator and I like them very, very much!!!

The Predator actions allows a slightly longer cartridge than Remington, so you better buy a Wyatt box magazine to take advantage of this, especially on such calibers that you may want more Overall Length, like .308win, .260rem, 30-06 etc.

The Kelbly Grizzly II is also a good choice ...it has cone breaching and port configuation for all shooting styles...It has the same threads as a Panda which are much larger than the Rem style thread....Roger

Good information! Are the Stillers offered as repeaters or just single shot actions? The stock he bought is set up for Bad.Ord. bottom metal and magazine. We are not exactly sure what actions would be compatable.
thanks for info.

Your first instincts can be correct. John Pierce has incorporated many subtle features in his actions which make them far superior to like priced actions. Call him and talk to him about those features.

See the Predator/TAC details at viperactions.com

Repeaters are available.

We're lucky to have so many choices in top-shelf custom actions!
