Shilen new action

Could there be any truth to what I am hearing now and then that Stiller makes that action, I have read about it, it is a combination of Rem 700 and Savage floating bolt head, seems that would be a good combo, the price is right in comparison to other such Rem 700 type actions, such as Stiller, Bordon, Surgeon, but is the quality up to par as the others.

I have been trying to find anything on this action, as I am very interested in the concept. Seems like the best of both worlds for the guy that likes to work on his sticks by himself, and yet does't have a lathe. If anyone has one or has seen one in action please chime in. All I have seen is a few reviews of the complete rifle from when they first came out. Shilen did tell me when I inquired that the wait time would be about 6 months.

This action has a unique combination of features. It is the only one that I am aware of, that has the advantages of taking Savage drop in barrels (Savage thread instead of Remington), such as Shilen, and several other barrel manufacturers offer, Remington pattern triggers and the choice of any stock that will fit a Remington. Add to this bolt head interchangeability, and you have quite a package. A friend, who has a lot of very fine custom actions, used one of the new Shilen actions to test prototype short range benchrest bullets, and reported favorably on it. I don't think that you will be disappointed.

Bighorn makes the same style of action. I have one on order. Very good value for the money and a great concept. Hope this helps. ;D

I went to shilen web site the threads are 1 1/16x20 not the same as savage small shank 1.050x20 large 1.112x20

The shilen was tapped so you can use their prefits. I dont think they would choose a bastard thread to prevent using prefits.

coonhunter70, did you get the single shot? and what caliber and contour and what kind of accuracy you getting.
I ordered the short action repeater with trigger in a 28" varmint contour in 25-06 and load it one at time. as far as accuracy it'll put three shots in a 1/2" I bedded it in a bell&carlson M40 stock, it serves its purpose well as a groundhog/critter gun. I have a 25-284 reamer on order as well as a Brux blank so this fall/winter I'll be swapping barrels on it for the first time.

Yes,...the action is made by Stiller Precision Firearms for Shilen...I was at the Shilen open house March 2010 when Jerry Stiller brought the actions out for all to review...they are real beauties...

Anyone have any pictures of one all made up in a stock and such. Did you use the pre-fit barrels from Shilen, or do some other setup?
