700 action

Dose any body know if Remington dose anything "special" tothe actions in their police "PSS" guns, or are they just factory actions painted black? Thanx Duey

6 years ago I asked Remington about the differences on the Remington Police, formerly PSS) and the Varmint VS rifles.

Their answer was: the stock are different,I already knew that...) and the finish are different too: Police is parkerized and VS are blued.
Other than this, they are exactly the same BARRELED ACTION from the same assembly line.

I attended Remington's Law Enforcement armorer school in Ilion NY in the 90's. The difference in the PSS was the quality control. The PSS was built to tighter specs and the rifles were tested more carefully. A standard 700 was tested one rifle out of a rack of 50,?) rifles. The PSS were tested more often.

Has anyone heard of this being done lately?

Do you think the QC has gone up in ...say....the last 5-8 years or so?

Better control methods? Are the same actions being used from model to model? Do Senderos and PSS get more checks than the run of the mill ADLs?

I think it was just marketing in action on Remington's Law Enforcment armorer school... I have a written letter from Remington saying they are exactly the same, only the finish are diferent,on the .308win).

If the PSS/LTR are QC'ed more often, I must have received one built on a Friday or Monday. It's a decent shooting rig but have found it will not feed successfully most of the time. I have replaced the magbox and it did no good. Now looking at the follower/spring.

Also, look at the bolts and you will notice where the majority of them are out of time with regards to camming. Don't get me wrong, I like my Remingtons but I have found that the older ones are built much better than anything built as of late.
