70 gr. hp tnt in 243

The 70TNT is mostly what I shoot in a couple 243AI's at about 3850. Very accurate. They launch pd's real good and just blow the crap out of rockchucks.

I've tried 75 grain HP Sierra Varminters and they don't hold a candle to the 70 grain Nosler BT out of my 6BR. I bought some 80 grain NBT's to try I was so happy. FWIW

+1 on what Ackman said! I shoot them from a standard .243 Win. and they are extremely accurate. I set them on top of 46.0 gr. of H414 seated .005" from the lands in RP brass and WLR primers. Depending on me, they're anywhere from .5 MOA to .25 MOA at 100 yds. Hold great groups at 300 yds. also! As far as the Noslers, I used to shoot the 55gr ballistic tips in my .22-250 and can't see where they did any great explosions either! Shot the 70gr. Nosler ballistic tips in my .243 also. Accurate but, I don't know if they're as accurate as the 70 TNTs.

I saw in the nosler manual where their most accurate load in a 243 with their 70g ballistic tip was 47.0g of H4350 with a Win Primer at 3600 fps. We have tried this load in several rifles and it shoots bug holes and it does send p. dogs fly'en!

As usual, work up to this load in your rifle!

The Sierra 80 grain Blitz with IMR 4350 is another outstanding varmint load combination for long range shooting. Used it for years with great success.

I can't afford nor desire to shoot a 243 for pdogs but have dumped several dozen coyotes with the 70 TNT. Drops them hard and 75% of the time no exit hole or a small one. Behind the shoulder or head on chest shots almost guarantee minimal pelt damage from my experience. Best bullet I have found for the 243 if you want the fur, otherwise the Ballistic Tip 70gr is my second choice.

Have shot up several thousand in 50's in a triple deuce on pdogs and they leave little to embalm and properly bury. :)

Sorry for the late comment.
This summer I've been using the Nosler 70 grain varmint with 40 grains of Varget for woodchucks. Out of every 10 hits, 3 of them exploded like they had a core of TNT rather than lead. Six out of 10 would leave a large exit hole. And 1 in 10 would pass right through.
It didn't matter where they were hit or at what range they were.

Could it be the angle of impact? or the weight of the critter?

I'm not sure I can blame Nosler, they must have strict quality control.

The Speer TNT have a thinner jacket & the ones I have used are scored at the tip by the factory so they will explode more readily than the Nosler Ballistic Tips. Both 70 grain bullets shoot very well in my .243s but I have settled on the Noslers in 70 & 80 grain for most of my shooting.

They shoot very good and you can't beat the price, my favorite 70 grainer is the Sierra Blitzking, has great expansion and does a number on Coyotes. The best explosive bullet I have ever shot is the 65 grain V-max its like a little bomb going off.
