7 WSM Standard SAMMI reamer throat is ?

Having a barrel chambered to 7WSM. Gun smith said his reamer is a standard SAMMI specs. Poster on LRH hunting said that it is most likely will be a short throated reamer so OAL of cartridges will fit factory magazines . My plan is to shoot Berger VLD and Hornady A-Maxes ? Will this work ?

Will it work. Yes.

I run one of my 7WSMs at 2.90" long, Short Action Mag length, but its certainly not optimum for the Berger 180. I have my F-Class 7WSM long-throated to get the Berger 180s out of the powder column - that one is 3.20" inches long.

So the difference between the two is only .30 thousands ? My rifle isn't a "F Class" rifle. I can live that that standard length .

Your math is correct, the terminology may not be quite right. You are looking at 300 thousandths of an inch, or 3 tenths, not 30 thousandths. So it is close to 5/16 of an inch (.3125) difference if you need something to reference it to.

Ok now I get it. I sent a note to my Gun smith saying I was wanting to shoot the VLD bullets out of my new rifle. Is there a extra step that he can do when he chambers it if he only has a standard SAMMI reamer.

are you shooting it from the mag then? Im sure my reamer is SAMMI spec also. I load to mag length and am jumping the 168 VLD .140" with great results. consistency .400" at 100 and best at 300 being .840" or .28 MOA

The mag in a Win Mod 70 Classic isn't small. So your loads with 168 VLD jump .140 ? Does that interfere with case capacity ? ...... I read about guys having their chambers throat ed for Berger VLDs Just wondering if that is needed for my rifle to get optimum performance.Or if sammi is good enough for this rifle ?I just want a really accurate bolt action hunting/target shooting rifle. It will not be used for F class shooting.

mine is in a large shank short action savage. does it interfere well yes and no. if I shake a loaded case there is room for the powder to move around and I am very close to max for my rifle. just looking at my notes again. that was a old load. my new one is jumped .177" with a OAL of 2.866. looks odd but shoots lights out. at the range a week ago and put 3 cold bore shots into 3/8. all touching.

the one was a labeled sighter at 50 yards to make sure i was on the paper as a changed my scope in the rings slightly. then moved back to 100.

Who made your BBL ? What is the contour ? Mine is a BRUX #4 or 5 its .670 at muzzle . Gunsmith is inletting the the factory stock now. Hope I didn't order to big of a bbl ?

that pic makes it look like a heavy one. its a Krieger 9 twist 5.5 contour f (6 contour fluted) 26.5" overall muzzle is 11/16 just measuring with a tape my calipers are packed up right now.

.040" Freebore will get a 180 berger to kiss the lands at 2.950" with my reamer. Not sure what SAAMI is.

I'll probably shoot Hornady 162 A-Max and Berger 168 VLDs the most . Should be getting the rifle tomorrow. 1st loads will be Sierra 160 gr GK in front of Re#25.
