7 rem mag to 300 wsm

Rem 700 7rem mag adl to 300 wsm. Will this combination work well, feeding issues etc? Thanks

You really need a short action with the short mag box. Itll work fine its the feeding that may or may not work

Here are the potential issues:
Magazine box- the existing one is too long, could add spacer. It is also probably not wide enough in the front portion of the box for the fat, minimum taper case.
Need a different follower to fit the shortened box. Different magazine spring.
The bolt throw is about .750 longer than needed. Should extend bolt stop to shorten the bolt travel.
It can be done, but you would be better off to sell/trade the long magnum action for a short magnum action.

A simple rechambering won't improve the quality of a barrel. A crap barrel is still a crap barrel.

The advantage to a long action with a 300 WSM would be that you could throat the barrel out for the long bullets and still feed from a mag. I like the 300 WSM because it is easy to tune, very accurate, really easy on throats compared to other mags, good brass, and just as much velocity with the right powders. I did a 30-338 in a mag action and it feeds good. I would think the feed rails would need modified for the fat WSM case. Matt

I did a rem700 LA 7mag to 6.5SAUM a little while ago, ordered a rem 700 ultra mag box from midwayusa$9.99 & used the factory 7mag follower. I put layout fluid on the feed rails and used a flat file to take off a small amount of material from the feed rails ( it wasnt very much) i went slow and checked the fit with a 7mm SAUM case several times unitl it dropped striat down through the feed rails. It worked out great. It fed from the mag box perfect and i didnt have any issues with it double feeding. Pretty easy fix with a $9.99 mag box and some time to file the feed rails. With a 300WSM and heavy bullets i think a LA would be a good idea for loading them way out.

The only way to build a wsm is on a long action. A short action kills it. Buy a kwik clip from cabelas and they feed great. I have a reamer that puts the 215 hybrid arounf 3.2" and its perfect.
