7 PRCW Repeater — Medium vs Long Action for AICS Mags?

Looking into building a 7 PRCW repeater. Needs to feed reliably from AICS-pattern magazines.

I understand 7 PRCW is longer than a standard short action round, but not quite full long action length. I’m assuming a medium action is the default choice, but I’m open to running a long action if that’s what’s needed for proper cycling and to avoid issues with bullet seating depth — especially when running heavy 180–190gr class bullets like the Berger hybrids.

Action options I'm considering:
  • Zermatt TL3 (medium)
  • Terminus Zeus (long action)

This is a range-only rifle, likely going into a McMillan or Foundation stock — not interested in chassis systems.

If anyone’s built or run a 7 PRCW repeater with AICS mags, I’d appreciate feedback on what action length actually works in practice. Trying to avoid feeding issues from the start.

This might be food for thought. I'm running 7saum in a CIP length 300 win mag MDT magazine and it works fine.

I went this way because if I decide to do a longer cartridge in the future I already have the bottom metal setup to accommodate the longer CIP length mags.

A medium action is perfect for the short mags running long bullets and would be very nice.

A long action is a safe bet if you might step up to a longer magnum cartridge in the future.
