7 mm lrm

IMHO the problem with the short mags is a short neck to work with, and inferior quality brass. On top of that you have to step all over the brass to acheive the velocity of the larger capacity cases. In the process of building my new long range 7mm on the 404 Jefferies case. No belt, long neck, and great Norma brass!

yeah but a round based on the 404J won't be able to be re-chambered in "John Doe's" 7mm Rem Mag, he has sitting in the closet. Couldn't even rebarrel it to make it work. Would need a whole new action.

Depending on the action might just need a bolt or a bolt head.

I suppose that may work on a Savage, but I doubt a person would be able to seat anything other than round nose bullets with an extremely low BC in the magazine. The 404 Jeffery case is EVEN LONGER than the 7mm STW measuring in at 2.875". So what sense would that make??? ???

And on top of that, it is widely known that the 7mm Ultra Mag is a major overbore that burns more powder than needed only to MATCH the speed of the 7mm STW.

So now we look at the case capacity of the 404 Jeffery and we see that it is 113gr H2O. Minus a few grains or so when necking all the way down to 7mm and what does that leave you with? Basically a 7mm Ultra Mag in different clothing! Just another overbore ultra mag is all that is. BUT now your case length is even longer than an Ultra Mag, let alone the STW.

I'm sorry, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I see absolutely ZERO advantages of taking the 404J down to 7mm...

The 375 Ruger case is the new age pudding, just have taste and you'll see how much you like it ;)
