7 creedmoor

LOL! It wasn't until I read some of the comments at the end of the article that I looked at the date and realized the humor. Thanks for posting that, especially in this thread. ;)

Hoot

Seems like the SA284 may be an interesting way to go for someone that wants a bit more out of the short action bolt guns, guess the trick would be to figure out who has the longest usable mag length you can get. I wonder if has characteristics that would suit it to trying something like RL16, Staball, or maybe even RL26 in it? 7-08 and 6.5cm both seem to like those powders with heavier bullets, seeing as you want to try N555.

I conceived this wild cat about 2 years ago and it does cover a
much broader range over any other true short action 473 bolt
face 7mm cartridge. I ordered in a new reamer with a .140" throat to
deal with magazine Issues. My barrel smith (Ethan Lam) has plans
to use this cartridge for PRS matches. I'll be shooting it at Ridgeway
Pa, when not at Anderson Creek.

Thanks All. I guess I should have said more in my initial question. I currently run a Gen 1 Rem 700 Ti in 7/08, bedded into a Manners EH3 stock with dbm using aics mags. I shooting 162 amax loaded to 2.875 oal. Every time I look at the loaded round, my brain gives a little twitch and I can't help but think that a sharper shoulder, and slightly shorter oal would be better way to skin the cat. I'm not looking for a huge boost in velocity- I have a 7 saum for that-but instead to make the very best use of the platform. There are plenty of wildcat options out there, from the 7 creed, SLR, AI, and the SAW. The easy button would be the SAW, except that I'm in Canada, and there are only so many SAW reamers in the country. Yes, I could order a reamer and dies from WTO, but I'm not really looking to spend a bunch of money on proprietary stuff to satisfy my curiosity. I do have access to a AI reamer. I can't help but think that cutting a chamber short, and shortening a FL die would basically allow me to form cases simply by running standard cases into the die. Basically using the Sherman Shortmag idea.

I see where your coming from.
My thinking, to get the 162gr AMAX to seat to your length and be out of the powder charge per say, you'd end up using something like a 7X47 or 7GT.

There is a write up on the 7X47. A search should help you locate it.
I haven't yet heard of anyone doing a 7GT. But that doesn't mean it isn't out there.

7 creed can fit the 162s, 168s, and the berger 180 hyb above the neck shoulder junction and still fit in 2.96" aics binderless mags. Thats probably its niche. You have to do a lot more mods to other cases to make it fit the same geometry.

The OP is loading to 2.875".

How about 7 PRC or is it almost like 7 SAUM in performance?
But then your getting into a magnum bolt face. And if the
narative changes, I'd go 7 Sherman. I chose changing up
the 284 Winchester case to stay with the 473 bolt face.

I think 7 saum is actually setup better. The length to the neck shoulder junction would basically be identical between 7 saum and 7 prc but the extra capacity of saum allows it to use h1000 and 7977 with less crunching. 7 saum would have about 4 grains more capacity and that doesn't get the geometry swing like 708 and 7creed gets since their length from base to the start of neck is basically the same.

So I think saum would end up with better velocity and more flexible powder choices. But 7 prc would get lapua/peterson brass....
