7 creed or 7-08ai

I had one in the Rem Ti 700. It was to light for me and I used it for hunting in the hills. To light to settle down for the shot. I did take a good 130 whitetail with it at 230, but like I said. The rifle was to light.

It's always easier to add weight than remove it.
We have small compact stainless suppressors that help with muzzle movement, take massive amount of use/abuse and are heavier if the Ti one is too light.

The nice thing about the 7-08AI is that you also have a normal 7-08 if you want it to be. In my experience, fire forming accuracy can be quite good. One inch or less at 100 yards and that is plenty good enough to harvest deer at 250 yards. You could shoot that thing for years before you ever bought an Ackley improved die set and started loading for it. I love Ackley cartridges and the juice is always worth the squeeze for me even with minimal gains like on the 7-08. The fact that you never have to trim is huge for me. I hate trimming and not having to do it is definitely a time saver. Also, everyone has a 7-08 not very many have the 7-08 Ackley Improved.

Hi guys I'm building a lightweight carry gun for stalking, out to distances 250 yards maximum.
I have a short 7mm carbon wrapped barrel, Ti suppressor, carbon stock (either PSE composite @ 23oz or a similar b &c @ 30oz) and a custom action with jewell trigger.
So the question, do I go for 7 creedmoor or a 7-08ai?

Pluses 7cm
Lapua brass with small primer
6.5cm dies neck up (easy to buy off the shelf)
No fire forming

Minus
No factory ammo

Pluses 7-08ai
Lapua Palma brass cheap and easy to buy
Can use 7-08 factory ammo

Minus
Dies aren't off the shelf or cheap
Have to fire form
What twist is that barrel ?

Pretty fast. Was thinking maybe a 9. You'll easily be able to go heavier if you want. The 7/08 would do great with 160 class bullets too. Personally I think there the heaviest you'd want to shoot.

7mm GPC = Grady Precision. There is load data out there that is amazing. No such thing as a 7 Creed, unless you just want to call it that.

7-08 all day and every day . Tje AI version puts you in 270 winchester ballistics and you are good to hunt about anything in the US with that. Go 7mm CR if you just want to be different.. which is fine too.

Have shot a 284 "Jim Lutes poor man's sheep rifle"custom Rem Mtn. rifle for 30 years.set up for 140 gr Barnes .Lilja 9 twist 24" #3 barrel...Its a 300 yd gun...period. All elk,my one moose, bears, big bucks all pass thru's with bullet.all one shot. a 140 in your 7-08 is all you need. I did kill one big cow at 377 yds,but I know my gun,no wind, perfect conditions and down she went, again total pass thru. The 7-08 IMP would of been my other choice. Opened mag well to 3.1..helps .

Last sentence here is important, "Opened mag well to 3.1, helps". Few consider Cartridge Over All Length and mag box constrictions, which can become a major malfunction in chasing accuracy.

Yep. Jim had it figured out when he was building these guns.He also put a bolt stop 3/8" shorter so I can eject the loaded round! With the Barnes 140 grain being longer than a copper/lead bullet the extra 3/10" is needed.Another reason to stay with 7mm over 6.5mm...shorter bullet at 140 gr.Also as Jim explained the 6.5 isn't going to help at all over 7mm in hunting gun situation..up to 300 yds.

I have often wondered if Rem 700 action ports could be opened up for ejecting long rounds like you see on the Weatherby Mark 5 long magnums?

Yessir! I lengthened the bolt stop on a M70 as well as the mag box, for a 7mm-08, but it'll feed long seated 168 vld's like it is. The m70 takes a little more massaging but can accommodate this better than a sa 700.

If you're limited by mag length...that's where a 7 creed or a 7x47 will shine....Shorter cases with longer necks.

I run a 145 spbt speer to 2945fps in a 22" bbl with RL17 in a 7mm-08. Ive took deer out to 450yds with it but that's stretching it for what the rifle will do. My son took a deer with that load yesterday. Took several deer with it and never lost one. A regular 7mm-08 would do fine for what you want to do. But I understand if you are just looking for something different. I do that type of thing myself alot.
