7-6.5 PRC

Has anyone necked up a 6.5 PRC to 7mm yet?

Curious what kind of velocity would be possible with 180g bullets?

I like the short/fat look of the case.

Anyone?

Its already a thing
The 6.5prc is a
Necked down
300 rcm

And pt&g
Makes a 7-300 rcm Remer
Can use 6.5 prc brass or 300rcm brass
Juat run it threw a die set best thing woukd be to get 300rcm bushing die set and set it up with the proper 7mm bushing and expander ball
I never looked at the prints but a 6.5prc die may work with the same convertion but feel it would be a bit longer head space on the 6.5prc so may not

The 6.5 PRC has the shoulder pushed back .073" more than the RCM.
The 7mm-300 RCM holds approximately one grain more water than the 7mm SAUM. I would expect similar performance. OAL of the RCM is a little longer than the SAUM. I have reamers for all three. I have been shooting the 7mm SAUM and plan to chamber both a 7mm-300 RCM and 6.5 PRC sometime yet this winter.

The 6.5 PRC necked up to 7mm would intrigue me. I would prefer a longer neck for the 7mm. If the 6.5 PRC case were improved to a 35 or 40 degree shoulder, how much neck length would be gained?

Sorry to update an old thread, but I am curious if anyone has done any more work on this?

I am thinking 7-6.5 PRC with 40 degrees shoulder.

Anyone??
What are you looking to use this for? I believe that the 6.5 PRC capacity is about the same as the 284 case. Since you mentioned improving it, I would look closely at the pic posted above. The necked up 6.5 will more likely have donut issues vs the necked down 300 RCM. This will also give a little more capacity than the improved PRC without having to fireform them out. It would also feed better from a magazine if you stay with the 30 degree shoulder on the RCM case.

2820 FPS or so from a 32” Fclass rifle with new Berger 190s.

No worries about feeding as these will be single loading.

Or go to the 7mm LRM.
The 375 Ruger necked to 7mm with no other changes.
Slightly more capacity than a 7mm Rem Mag.

I've been thinking about either a 7mm-300 rcm or 7-6.5 prc. PRC would certainly be easier to find a bushing die for.

From what I can determine both would require a long action or extended S/A mag box (and maybe receiver mods) to really load properly.

Am I incorrect on any of that?

That is correct. My 7mm-300RCM reamer has a .185" throat and loaded rounds with 162 A-Max are a little over 3".

7mm stw is about 50% higher capacity, about 93 grains. You're thinking 300 prc necked down which probably is similar to the stw. 6.5 prc capacity is around 62 grains, maybe 64 necked up to 7mm.

My guess on oal for the 7mm rcm was 3.050" so I wasn't very far off. Just not a real good fit with either short or long actions in my opinion which is disappointing because I've had my eye on that project for quite a while.
