7.5x55 Swiss reload

My grandson recently purchased a Swiss K11 and I'm helping him find a reliably accurate load using either 150g or 168g SMK's. Suggested starting direction for powder and load? He/we would like to keep it tame for shooting at 500 yards or less.

I look for GP 11 surplus ammo for sale every once in a while. It's hit or miss . When it becomes available, it goes fast. I have a case of it now, so I haven't needed to look for a while. It's so cheap and accurate, why reload?
That said, my book lists H4895 with loads similar in weight to what I load for the 308 so I would try that first. Good luck!

The accuracy loads listed in the Sierra manual are just that, accurate in my K-31s. The seating depth is not correct for the K-31 in the Sierra manual but the powder charge with IMR 4064 is spot on accurate. These loads were done up with the K-11 so seating depth should be OK for you.

Hodgdon lists some VERY mild load for the 7.5x55,
and they might done their tests with a 96/11 since their tested barrel length is 31" ?

Edit: Just ran a handful of Hodgdons 7.5x55 max loads in Quickload and they're all around 38,000 psi. Very mild indeed.

IMR 4064 is the powder of choice due to it's bulk. You could take a look at the reloading tips on Swiss Rifles dot com. They discuss reloading for the K31 as well as the K11.

easier but accurate load is 168SMK over 42.5gr of N140. Would use something slower but 140 was on shelf. Is using N150 or RL17 then 175 (smk or scenar L) would make an excellent round, but a bit more hard kicking than 168.

Have any of you that handload for these rifles compared your ammo to gp11? What type of accuracy we're you getting with each?
While GP11 is an accurate round, the 175 SMK + Vihtavouri N150 can print very nice groups, quite good deal smaller than the GP.
Will try to find the group pictures.

I've used IMR 4064 with Hornady 165 grain flat base spitzer, 168 match and 168 SMK that outshoots four different lots of GP11. Powder charge was around 43 grains, depending on which rifle I was feeding. Cases are necked - up .284 Winchester. I use a 20x Lyman for load testing at 200.

Interesting, thanks guys. Currently with the irons I don't think I'm consistently out shooting the ammo and I have a bunch of the gp11 but in the future I'll probably try to load some up

The GP11 ammo if you can find it is amazingly accurate and shoots right to my K31s point of aim. The wax/hardened something that rings the case mount is a sealer and I believe there to help center the loaded round to the bore. Its way too thick to not be there for that purpose also. Great stuff if you can find it.
