7.5 twist for dasher

If I was only going to shoot 100 grain bullets I would get an 8 twist. I shoot 105 VLD's in an 8 with no problem. Now if I was going to shoot 105 Hybrid I would get a 7.5 to 7.75 twist. Matt

I am in agreement with Matt. For the 105 Hybrids a 7.5 would be better. My 8 twist dasher stabilizes 103 Spencer's to 107 Gr. Sierras fine.

First the hybrid, if you look at the overall length, not the published length and plug that into the formula a 1-8 will work, the 103 Spencer will work with a 1-8 also. How well the shoot is an other story. Old hybrids ( maybe a different bullet in 2012) shot better in a 1-7.75 for me, also i did very well with the Spencers in a 1-7.75 twist. I tried six or more 1-8 barrels and didn't have much success with the exception of one and it was on the fast side of 8. It would pound a 4" ten shot groups at 1000……jim

I appreciate your advice! I've got an 8 twist that got here yesterday! But I'm going to get a 7.75 on the way!

To me a 1-8 twist is fine for 6mm's. My first 6mm was back in 1991. I've shot them out to a 1k yards as across the course rifles and prone long range guns and F-class guns out to a 1k. I'm doing a Dasher right now and that one the barrel is a 1-7.75" twist.

All my other 6mm's have been mostly 1-8 twist barrels and I had a couple of 1-7.5 twist barrels. I seen no difference in performance. My 6 creedmoor gun is a 1-8 twist barrel and with 105 Hybrids it'll give you 1/3moa or better. It's set up as a tactical bolt gun.

The only reason I had 1-7.5 twist barrels was to shoot the 115gr. bullets. Had it in a 6mm Rem. and a 6x47 Lapua. The 115's need a 1-7.77 twist min. My 6x47 Lapua during the F Class Champs when I shot it several years ago got many compliments as the gun was holding 1/3moa for vertical at a 1k.
