7-08AI w/ 180gr VLD data please

Gents and Ladies,

Chasing any data anyone has on the 7-08AI with 180gr bullets. I have H4350 and RL19 but happy to try other powders. Plan on using as my long range F-Open rifle.

never went beyond 160's, however after trying 5-6 different powders and crono, excel file record, the one standout for that case in all weights I found to be h414,

Give it a try. rl22 was next best

I have a barrel for that chambering on order, dies in the draw, and intend starting with AR2209 for the 180's and perhaps fireforming with 168's. AR2213cs might be worth a try with the 180's if there is enough room in the case.

I stoped at 160gr because of the limitations of the case and mag length. to me the 140 -160 is fine for any hunting you might undertake,up to elk etc.
however for longer range target work the 160gr at 2850fps from a 24" bbl seems to max out the case potential vs powder capacity.

I built two. One ruger and one savage. Savage on a LA and I ran 162-180 in it. I used h1000, imr 4007ssc. Think I was at 40 gr 4007. Don't remember. Mine were standard. Not AI.

Is that AI or std 7-08 data? And no powder charges don't help unfortunatly.

he indicated standard case, in the first of his post he did not list bbl lenght.

These velocities are well below what the AI will do.

with a Hart 9twist 24" bbl and 7-08AI I obtained 3024fps with 3-4 powders and H414 giving the best accuracy in .300's with a 71/4lb hunting rig and a 4.5x14 leup scope.
The 160s' gave 2850fps, with similar groups.
so I am not impressed with the velocities listed above from the std case. I would expect the AI to give 180's velocity in the area of 2650-2750fps or more depending on bbl length. water capacity increase is in the area of 8%.

I will be getting a 30" barrel so 180gr at 2750-2820 should be achievable.

Built a 7mm-08 off of a Savage PTA using a 30" CBI 1:9. shot the 175's extremely well at 600. Only got to shoot farther than that once at 1k and they did great there as well. Was using WW brass and R17, pm for data.
