7/08 and 45-70 range session

Finally got a decent break from the heat and wind this morning so loaded up the 4Runner and took the wife's Kimber 7/08 with a freshly mounted Vari X III 6.5-20x Leupold and the new CVA 45-70 with a fresh DNZ mount and a Burris Fullfield E1 4-14x. Ammo for the 7/08 was handloaded 150g NBTs over 46g RL17 in Winchester brass and CCI 200 Primers loaded to max mag length. Velocity was 2840fps over 5 shots. The 45-70 was factory Hornady 325g FTX and average velocity was 2000fps over 5 shots. Need to move the 45-70 up about 1" and the 7-08 down about 1.25" for a good 100y zero. All in all not to shabby from a 7# rifle and a $350 rifle. Wind started to pick up pretty good so I decided to just leave well enough alone on a good note.

I have the same CVA 45/70 and it shoots everything I have tried under an inch. It has a Vortex viper 3x9x40 on it. It loves 300gr JHP Hornadys and shoots 3 of them under 3/4". It also shoots 3 350 cast HP's from a Lyman/Gould mold into just under an inch and some 405 gr plain base cast into 3/4". Those CVAs are great shooting guns for the money. The brake that comes with them sure makes it easy to shoot well.

There is a price that would buy almost any rifle I own but it would take a long string of big numbers to get my Remington M7 7MM08 away from me!
It is the one rifle that holds more memories and has taken more game than any other I own. I NEVER had to go search for any animal harvested with that rifle shooting Speer 130 BTSP bullets and V140.
Your Kimber really does seem to be a great shooter too.

Well it kinda looked like a quarter...but then 1940 was 24 years before I was born. Anyhow, nice groups...even better with a dime! Still, don't lose that dime

85' here. I thought it was kinda cool. Apparently it's 90% silver. Not worth much, but will make nice photos with bullet holes lol.

I remember a old tale that work for me when I was a little fellow, which was many years ago. My late, great father would take one of those dimes and spit on it and put it on a bee sting. Made it quit hurting when I was small. Don't know if there was anything to it , but it worked because my Dad said it did.

Great shooting factory Kimber.
