7-08---.308 velocity ????

How is it that a .308 has higher muzzle velocity than a 7-08? Its a smaller bullet out of basically the same size case????? Some one explain this to me.

Case volume and bullet weight being equal, it's always the larger bore that gets more velocity with same pressure. Larger diameter bullet has more "base area" and thus more pressure affecting it. It also has less bearing surface,if bullets are of similar construction).

You may be comparing apples with oranges. If you compare bullets with similar SD you'll find that they are close to the same in mv. In fact the smaller calibers may show greater mv. Bullet weight and energy will favor the bigger bullet.
