6xc twist for hybrids

Hello, I new to the forum. Been reading/ lurking for a while here. I'm building my first 6xc. I'm looking at shooting 105 hybrids for paper and 105 hunting vlds for deer. I've read that the hybrid is a little longer than the vld. What twist rate are ya'll running with the hybrids? Any issues with the 8 twist? Or do I need anymore to be certain of stabilization. Thanks

I just built my first 6xc. Shot it prone, 600 yd match last saturday. I bought a krieger 31" barrel, 7.5 twist for many reasons. I wanted the long sight radius, use R-17, Will shoot 115g DTAC's, I shot 107g Nosler's saturday and they shot great, even while fireforming 22-250 RP brass. Have tested 105's, 107's and 115 DTAC's all with great success.

Not a good length to hunt with but a great prone barrel length and twist.

I have a 1:8 twist. First load tried with hybrids went into .500 horizontal and .300 vertical. I plan to work with that load a little more but 1:8 seems to work fine.

1:8 works in true 1:8 barrels, 1:7.5 might be worthwhile if you plan on shooting where it's cool. I shoot 'em in a 1:7.8 6XC Bartlein & 1:7.5 Kreiger (6HAGAR) with excellent results.

have run 1/8 twist for years and have no issues with 105 class bullets. 115 dtacs work just fine too. 115bergers will stabilize but dont group worth a poot. the 7.5 works with everything.

I will be shooting this during hunting season when the temps are in the 20's. As Spclark pointed out maybe I need a little faster twist for the cold temps? I wish I knew how close to the edge of stabilization the 8 twist was?

for 105 class bullets you are NOT on the edge. 20F, 100F, wont matter unless you are shooting some ridiculously enemic load. Pick a twist and go shoot.

I had a 7.75 bartlein that would not get the 115DTAC to shoot, does great with the 105 hybrids. I'd stick with 7.75 in my case, 7.5 to get the dtacs working. I shoot at sea level and 0-30 degrees celsius. 105 loaded with H4350 to 3175fps out of 31".

Either will work well with Berger's 105 Hybrids.

The .236 will see higher pressures quicker and (depending on barrel manufacturer & level of bore finish) may tend to foul faster in early use so load-test with this in mind.

I am shooting 3 6XC's 2 8 twist and 1 7.5 all shoot the Berger Hybreds well. I compete sling at HM level and find the 8 twist to be a great choice. You can't go wrong with them as long as you use the 105- 107 weight bullets. The 115's may or may not work with the 8 twist, if you plan to use any of the 115 bullets by all means select the 7.5. Happy shooting
