6XC Reamer

Aero

I've had a 6XC reamer for some time that I have never used and decided I have to have a rifle chambered for it.

I'm hoping that some of you guys that have some experience with the round can give me an idea what brass and bullets might work best with the reamer dimensions and whether they are "standard" as far as the chambering goes?

Neck diameter is .275" and free bore is .104". It was ground in 2010.

Thanks-
Eron

I run a .274NK .104 FB in a 1-8 twist barrel...Norma Brass. I shoot mostly 105HVLD's in it..
Shoots great.. it is a 1 30deg lead in..Works well for me with 105 class bullets. No turn neck. load and go.

Thanks, I figured the neck was ok, but was thinking the FB was a little short. With the 105's seated to the lands is the bearing surface all the way up in the neck?

just off the top of my head with out measuring anything the Berger 105 HVLD's base is just above the neck shoulder junction. I would think most 105-108 bullet would be in that range. The 115's would put the base just below the neck shoulder junction..So you can shoot any bullet with that FB. But it seems to work well with the 105's and lighter bullets.
I think you will like it and be happy with it and after shooting it some you can decide if you would like one longer.I also have one with a .276NK and a .160 FB. The .160 is long but that is what I wanted to try and it works well for me with a 115 VLD I can and have shot some 105's and tried some 110's but never shot enough of them to see if I could make it shoot real well.It did not shoot as well as the 115's but I do think it would if I played with more.Me personally I think maybe about .140 would be ideal. I was thinking to send my .160 in and have reground to .140

If you want to try something different, consider running it in abt .080-.100 deeper and ream the neck another .120+ longer. Make your brass out of 308 Palma or L. primered. Just a thought to have a 95% chance of hitting a 3150 fps or faster node for the heavies. That will bury the turbulence point ( possibly more throat life), give more seating depth choices with lighter pills. Just an old phardt's ruminations.

So......a 6XC Super

As good a name as any orrr, Super 6 K&T. A bud, Keith and I have been messing with this for a bit. He has double digit reloadings on his brass at those speeds, small primered that is. Brass is still gtg.

at that point you might as well go 6mm slr, its nothing more then a 6xc +.120 , in fact some slr guys use 6xc dies raised .120 to form and size 6mm slr

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Will not the SLR duplicate .243 case capacity, not to mention losing the much longer neck I mentioned.
I'm trying to reduce powder consumption, throat wear and still reach velocities at, if not above what most .243s give. Open discussion here.....Let's have thoughts on this.

ya the slr only gives up about 1 gr capacity of standard 243 if that. the shoulder is only slightly pushed back.
