6XC primers

I have been forum reader for several years but have not posted. Having trouble getting custom 6XC to pattern consistently. Using 39.5 gr. H4350, F210 primer, Berger 105H, 0.02 off lands. What primers may be better? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Skip switching primers for now - that's probably not the issue. IMO - - Drop the load 2 grains to 37.5 gr. and start there. 39.5 gr. of H4350 is hot enough not to group well in at least one of my barrels.

I have only been using the CCI #200's in my XC. They have produced sub 1/4 MOA groups with very limited load developement. My load is 38gr H4350 under a 105 VLD .020-.025 off the lands. Velocity is at 3050 fps with an ES of 18 fps. Doesn't look like i'll be bothering with any other primer for the near future.

+1 on that post. Also, your neck tension and seating depth may need to be double checked or optimized.

I've used CCI BR, Rem 9 1/2, and Win LR...... all worked well. :) WD

+2 on that quote. My accuracy node set me right smack at 38.8 with 107SMK's and F210's. I thought I had one up around 39.6 also but it strings horizontally something fierce at any distance and seating depth.

From what I've seen with all those bullets in that 105grain class (naked), 38.5 is gonna be darn close!

I started at 37.8 and went up to 40, everything above 39 was all over the place.

8 Twist Kreiger, 4 groove, .236 bore. If ya need any more info, feel free to ask!

mine shot well with fed 210 match primers and H4350..I don't know you need to tune the rifle to what it tells you.
mine likes the bullet just touching the rifling . and much more powder. 40.0 to 40.5 shot best in mine. consistently. so did RL17 with the cci 200 primer..I been shooting the RL17 since last fall since it seems to work better in cold weather but will go back to H4350 for the summer just cause I have it to burn. actually mine was very inconsistent under 39.0 grs. but look at the velocity I got at 40.5 ..the lot of H4350 I have seems on the slow burn side..I show no pressure signs at 40.5 grs but if I go to 41.0 I do.

Thanks for the input. I will try a 300 yd. ladder starting at 37.5 gr. H4350 and increasing 0.2 grain. I thought I had a node at 90.5 but it did scatter at long distances. At 90.5 the MV was only 2950. I have a 24" Brux, Stiller predator action. Action screws are tight as well as scope.

Does anyone use H4831 with the 105 Berger? If so, would you supply some info?

Thanks

What speed are you getting with 39.5??

IMHO, it's the speed you should be looking at. Prior to me getting my 6XC, I was told by a few veteran 6XC guys that if your 6XC doesn't shoot well between approx 3025 and 3050 (roughly 39.5 grains of h4350 and 105's) then something is wrong with the barrel ;)

Probably not so cut and dry but it worked for me. In my situation, my 24" barrel needed 40 grains to get in that node. Another thing I would try is to back off the lands even more.....way more with those hybrids, and give it a go then move in if needed. My rifle shot lights out and I wasn't even near the lands. I also did some testing with different seating depths and couldn't get it to shoot any better by getting closer to the lands.

MuleyTime could you say how far off the lands are you talking about? I did a test and went to 0.03 off and no further. Thanks.

Use 38 gr H4350 with 105 Bergers and Fed210m. very nice accuracy. I can't find the H4350 anymore.

39.0 H4350 w/ a Hybrid jammed .020 with .001 neck tension. Shoots excellent at 3050fps. Norma brass and Fed210GM. Groups .275ish with waterline elevation waaayyyy out there.

I disagree with if it does not shoot that then something is wrong with the barrel.
Agree it is just never cut and dry..

story off the 6xc subject. But I have a very nice 7mm weatherby mag..I could not get it to shoot better than 2" to 3" 3 shot groups at 100 yards...the very best I might get a 1 1/2" one... I tried several bullets and 3 powders..nothing..I have seen a few in the past that shot this way and it just needs a barrel...so I was ready to have a barrel put on it...mean time I been shoting and cleaning and cleaning and cleaning..well I tried another bullet and another powder and it consistently, if I do my part will shoot 1/2" 3 shot groups at 100 yards..I shot it at 200 yards and cut bullet holes.. ended up with five shots leaving it cool between shots 1 1/4" at 200 yards..I cant shoot it any better than that even if it was capable . finding a tune can be a crazy thing and not all rifles will like the same thing..Take a 6BR. I have had three different ones and they all shot mostly the same GREAT well a buddy of mine was telling me his would not shoot...what I told him it would...so I took the rifle and spent a week trying to tune it..I did but it did not like anything I usually shoot..but we did get it shooting great.. best I could figure is the barrel was real tight..

38.0 gr H4350
105 Hybrid .020 off lands
Avg speed 3016fps out 26" barrel
Produce .264 group outside-to-outside @ 210 yds

38.5 shot pretty darn well too. But I stayed with a sure deal load.

I'm also using a Wolf Large Rifle primers and FGM match primers

I don't have that rifle any longer (Just received my brand new 6XC today and going out this weekend to see what it likes). I know my OAL was 2.75 with Hybrids, and for that rifle I know I was at least .04 from the lands. It was so far from the lands that I felt I could get it to shoot even better if I got closer. So, I started testing seating depth's which didn't prove to be any more accurate.

Do you have a chrony and/or do you know what your speed was with your 39.5 grain load? I am seeing that several guys are getting into that 3015-3050 node with as little as 38.5 grains....good to hear, as that's where I plan on starting with my new rifle.

At 39.5 gr. H4350 MV is 2950 with ES in double figures. To get 3000+ mv I tried 40s but no accuracy. I am shooting 300 yd. ladder from 37.6 - 39.6gr. H4350 in the morning. Chronograph is a shooting chrony at 25 feet from muzzle.

I get the best ED/SDs seating the Hybrids .015" off. Like single digits.

Exactly the same data for mine down to a tee. So weird! It tried seating them off 40 thou to jammed 15 thou. Couldn't get it to shoot. Someone suggested I try jamming it 20 thou and voila it was like a light switch was flipped. Been shooting well ever since!
