6XC or 6x45?

Looking to build on an XP-100 action a handgun that will be effective on deer and low on recoil and report. The pistol will be used by folks in wheelchairs inside of blinds so a brake is out of the question. I'm trying to find a round that can get all the power burned out a 14" barrel and not catch the camo netting on fire. I've liked everything I've found about these two, just wondering what you folks think about these choices out of a short barrel?
Thanks

Howdy !

Not what you asked exactly, but.... have you considered any large-cal stuff, like a .357AutoMag or .357 Bain & Davis ?
I DK your expected engagement distance, but...... a .35 cal case w/ this case capacity could certainly be effective; if not over-tasked on range.

.357AutoMag brass can be made from things like 7BR and 6BR brass, which would present a choice of using either LR or SR primer.

Just a thought.

I hunted deer for years using an xp with a 15" 7br barrel, using the 130 Sierra sp pistol bullet, it is a sure killer, and the recoil Is mild, I used 31.5 gr of H5895 and had 2250fps with 32 gr of 2230 got 2400fps,

these loads give about 1300fp and 1500fp respectively.

either load the deer just dropped, mild blast and moderate recoil.

same sentiments as Bob. You are wanting to burn all the powder, keep noise and recoil down, the BR case, 6mm through 7mm would be my choice. Availability, capacity & terminal performance......what's not to like?

Even better might be the 30 BR with the Speer 125 gr TNT or 125 gr Nosler ballistic tip.

Way back when, I killed a dump truck full of groundhogs with a T/C Contender in 30 Herrett.

use the br case with 7mm or 6.5 and you don't have to work to get the fp of energy you want and the dies, brass are around with little or nominal necking down.

Thanks for the input fellas. While the 30BR has very impressive stats, I think the recoil is going to be an issue with the handicap hunters. I need to keep it down and still have a 200-300yrd deer killer. Now the 6 or 6.5Br may be manageable. I'm leaning towards the 6mm because of all the lead I have in that variety in the 85 to 105 category. No one has any love for the 6XC or 6x45 huh? Thanks again, I'm meeting with the gunsmith on Thursday and wanted to have some ideas to pitch to him.

I think 6XC and 6 X 45 have plenty of adherents.
They're more intended for use in barrels longer than 16", IMHO.

I don't think the 6xc is a wise choice for your application. You need more barrel for that cartridge. The 6x45 is a neat round, but a deer hammer at 300yds it isn't. The 6BR is a good choice, or possibly a 6x47 Lapua. I think your requirement for range is a bit much for the 6x45 out of a 14" barrel. The 6mm Hagar or 6.5 Grendel would be an option if your smith can open up a 223 bolt to PPC or you order a new bolt.

When I mentioned that I was thinking about the 6mmBR to the gunsmith, he said that it's quite possibly the best choice of caliber for an XP build and his personal favorite. The plan is a 15" Krieger 1:8 sendero/varmint contour on a McMillian centergrip. He said a br4 primer, 28g of Varget and a 107SMK and I'll be smiling. Now the waiting begins.........

Thanks again for the input and direction.
