The detailed study still stands... I tested the Peterson 6XC small primer case this AM with 32 gr H4350 and a 115. Freezing temperatures yielded ignition with Rem small primers. Wolf magnum small primers didnt fare as well.. 1 Hang fire and 2 that DIDNT even go off... will still be offering a small primer version of the 6XC in the near future because that is what many think they need.

Yea i would go 6XC over a dasher any day of the week. I had two sold one still have one now and both of them would shoot 1/8 moa I had a dasher and on days when it was in tune i was a hammer but on days when it was not it was a shotgun...The XC does not have that problem you can run a mild load or you can redline it and it shoots the whole way.
Truly one of the Best 6mm cartridges ever.

How do you know the different results were not just because of the barrels?

You ask because of the Dasher. I had the very best and i was not impressed. Two 6xc rifles one a 1-8 twist with a short throat, min. clearance neck, tight chamber. One the 6XC II chamber in 1-7 twist both rifles would shoot 1/8 moa. with the occasional .150 moa with even a few .110 groups at 100 yards. both sporter weight barrels one a #3 and one a #4..I used to shoot some short range BR and i can tell you that is BR level accuracy out of heavy sporter rifles with ease. The 6XC is exactly what I wanted 6BR accuracy with 243 speed or enough speed to be a useful long range round. I shoot 40.5 RL17 behind a 105 HVLD at 3,150 FPS and have seven (7) one shot kills on whitetails out to 500 yards. I also have pushed the 115 HVLD at 3,150 FPS with RL26, CCI BR2 in a hole at 200 yards. The problem i had with the load was when then temp dipped into the 30's i would loose 120 FPS but 60 to 90 deg F it was fine. I have heard recently that a few guy's running that load with a Fed 215 primer and it lit better in cold temp. I never tried it.



I have shot 6.5 creedmoore's small rilfe primer reformed palma's with CCI 450 primers with a load of 43.0grs of RL17 behind a 140 VLD at -10 deg F to 95 deg F and had no problems they all went off and even was only 2,900 FPS at -10 deg F and 2,980 FPS at 95 deg F with some bolt lift. average load used from 30 deg F to 90 deg F at 2,950 FPS...Shot well..

I tried some 6.5 creed small rifle primer brass reformed to 6XC and i had no performance gains over the norma XC brass at all i could not push a hotter load on them like i did on 6.5 creed. So far the Norma XC brass is as good as it gets. I was hoping to see some Peterson brass in large primer pocket for the 6XC maybe it may be better.
The only reason i used small primer palma brass in the 6.5 creed was to run a higher pressure load and i did it worked. So far in the short test i did i could not run any higher pressure load for the 6XC using small primer brass. I run a hot load on the Norma XC brass and i do not have loose primer pockets. My recent load i was pushing the 103 ELD-X at 3,250 FPS...lol out of my 6XC 26" #3 sporter but it did not shoot well i had to back it down to 3,180 FPS for 1/2 moa. hunting load..So my 2 cents would be no use for small primer 6XC brass. But CCI 450's are the only primer to use

David; Do you have any load advice for the 70gr Blitzking bullets? My Blaser R93 Krieger barrel will be here in about 75 days, it's set up at 20" long for coyotes and prairie dogs. I'd be happy with anything over 3300fps for this set up, of course it will need to work from +105f down to -5f.

I'm not David Tubb by any means but I have run some 70 Blitzkings with WW 760 through my 24" Brux 9 twist on a Savage 10 Predator action in the factory stock and they shoot into a ragged hole at a hundred yards. A mild load at 44.6 gn gives just over 3500 fps. The twist was chosen to do double duty with 95 grain bullets and the 70's in mind. It works very well with both. The 95 Hvld Berger also packs them into a ragged hole at a hundred and accounted for two whitetails this fall with two shots. I intended to do some coyote hunting this winter but that never happened. I would think the 70 Bkings at 3500 fps should be deadly on the yotes.
The package is absolutely a blast to shoot on top of it all.

David Tubb identified the reason for the 6XC many years ago, and that was efficient across the course performance with better barrel life than the 243Win. I was sold then on the 6XC for paper, and still am for live game.

Neither of the above loads are anywhere near max in this rifle. Groups opened up as I went up in powder. I settled on these because they gave acceptable velocities and were at what I was satisfied as a good working pressure and velocity. Both are used for hunting and these were best accuracy. I am tickled with the whole package. And that Brux barrel has next to nothing for copper after 30 rounds. This thing just seems to shoot anything I put in it.

Can the 6XC run as fast as the 6 competition match with the heavier bullets such as 110’s and 115’s?

And does the 6XC run well with h1000 for the extended barrel life when pushing the heavier bullets fast or what is the goto powder for this chambering?

What is the recommended twist for the 6XC (7,7.5 or 8)?

Who stocks this reamer? And I’ve noticed there is a 6XC II but will the standard 6XC reamer work with the current Norma brass or only with older formed 22-250 brass?

Great questions.
1. I have shot a few 6xc barrels. Was able to get 2960fps with the 115gr DTAC Bullet in a 30” barrel using H4350 and Norma brass. You could probably get same or similar velocity with H4831SC.

2. 115gr Bullets should use a 1-7 twist. 105 GR Bullets work in 1-7 or 1-8 twist.

3. Reamer. The problem is that there is NO standard reamer for the 6xc. PTG has over 100 variations of the 6XC reamer. I have migrated to the 6XCII reamer and dies to make sure everything is compatible. I have had barrels chambered before with a smiths reamer that did not match my dies and brass. I had big problems and could not size the brass down small enough. Do yourself a favor, make sure you own your own reamer and have dies that are compatible with that chamber. 6XCII is an easy way to do that and is designed to accept the Norma brass or 22-250 fireforming.

Bullets.com was offering all of the items needed for the dasher such as reamer, brass and maybe dies also.

Lotta different 6 Creed brass out there, another very good option, I like mine, very accurate, 8 twist with DTACs works very well once you find the right load and chamber size, I run 105JLKs and they're wonderful bullets.

6 Dasher is made from 6 BR brass, except for one or two factory offerings - which guys seem to seldom use. I personally would say these are the most widely available.

6 XC brass has a few factory options, pretty rare, but it can be made from a handful of cartridges.

Again, a few places make 6ppc brass, not so common, but I think it’s safe to say most guys make it from Lapua 220 Russian cases.

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about the availability of any of them. Find your brass and buy more than you need, treat it well, and enjoy it for a really, really long time. Start looking for restock before your first set of cases burns out.
