6xc or 6-6.5x47L improved or 6-6.5x47L

Hello people looking to put together a tactical rifle for a bit of long range paper punching and some varmint shooting based on surgeon action 28" 1:8 Krieger bbl AICS stock cant decide on caliber settled on 6xc or 6-6.5x47L or improved .
Accuracy being the most important anybody had any experience with which one would be best
Thanks

I would tell you to go with a regular 6BR. The 6BR might not be as fast as the 6XC or 6x6.5x47, but it will still do the job out to 1000 yards. You will just have to put a little more MOA into the scope. I have owned both a 6x284 and 6MM AI, and after I shot a 6BR, I wondered why I even bothered with 6x284 or 6MM AI. Don't get me wrong, the 6x284 and 6MM AI are awesome cartridges but for varmint hunting I realized the 6BR was perfect. Plus, the 6BR is easy to load, is super accurate, has excellent brass, cheap to load, excellent barrel life and it's easy to find components like dies and brass. Currently it's pretty hard to find dies and brass for the 6x6.5x47. Plus the brass is really expensive.

Also, ask yourself how far will shoot on an average bases during varmint hunting. For me, I shoot varmint on average from 100 to 600 yards with the occasional shots past 600 out to 1000 yards. If you think your going to average 600 to 1000 yard shots than I would tell you to go with either 6x6.5x47 or better yet go with the 6x284. But if you think most of your varmint shooting will be done from 100 to 600 yards, go with the 6BR. It will also depend on what type of varmints your shooting. I shoot ground squirrels and Pdogs, so I don't need to much power to kill those small vermin, even at the longer ranges. But if your going to be shooting groundhogs or woodchucks, at long range, than the larger 6mm cartridges like the 6x6.5x47 would be the better choice.

When I Begin having varmint rifles, I was told by many to have a 6BR built for varmint hunting. However, I wanted the 6x284 and the 6MM AI because the speed factor. Once I realized how much powder I was burning, how much money I was spending and watching my buddies with 6BR's out shoot me I knew I needed to have a 6BR built.

I will say this, from what I have read and heard about the 6x6.5x47, it sounds like a great cartridge. Also, if your going to build a repeater, well than the 6x6.5x47 would be a better choice than the 6BR. But if your going to build a single shot, go with the 6BR. Trust me you will super happy with it.

Thanks for the advice 6br i was looking at a repeater as the Accuracy international stock comes with a 10rd box mag and the 6.5x47 drass is quite easy to get hold of over here in england.
Vermin wise wanted to shoot rabbit/fox and the smaller deer species. The 6br sounds like an awesome cartridge would def give it a look for a single shot rifle. i think the 6x47L will be the way to go no fire forming as with the other 2 rounds and should be accurate enough as its an elongated 6br.

Batfink, than you're going with the perfect cartridge. The 6x47 Lapua is an awesome cartridge too, especially for a repeater.

I've owned five 6 Dashers, based on the std.BR), and have enjoyed shooting all of them. However, I wouldn't try to talk you out of a 6x47L for LR shooting if that's what you'd really like to build. I think it's a pretty good cartridge in its own right, with accuracy rivaling that of the BR & its variations. The Dasher has about 4grs. more case capacity than the BR, and the 6x47 has 6-7grs. more capacity than the Dasher. With bullets in the 105-115gr wt. range, that extra capacity translates into measurably more umph on target. I've got a 6x47 with an 8-twist Bartlein that handles DTAC 115s very well, so your Krieger should handle them as well.

Batfink,

I have had a 6CX for 600 yd Benchrest, before the good Norma brass)it would not shoot the way I thought it should. It would shoot 0.5 moa, that will not make it in todays 600 bench matches. My problems may have been the brass at the time.

Some of the guys tried the the new 6X47 Lapua with about the same luck. But others have done very well. The ones that are doing well have opened up the flashhole a little at a time until things start to shoot well. Some shoot fine as is.

I think the 6x47L is on the borderline for a small primer, this is why opening the flashhole can help. In the 6.5 x 47 it is no problem. The 6CX has a large rifle primer.

I have not tried 6 X 47L due to the 6CX problem, just letting you what these guy have run in to.

I think are great rounds, and do well for alot of guys, but well known shooter have problem with both. None of guy are shooting one today. They have gone back to the BR'S

I shoot a 6BRX,6BR imp), but it will not feed thru a mag well. The 6BR and 6BR imp hold all the current recorld in IBS 600 benchrest. One will fall to a 308 in HG. after it is scored this winter.
