6XC ladder assistnce

I started the post regarding 6XC primers and have now shot a new ladder looking for a node at a suggested lower powder charge. Previous ladders were from 39.0 - 40.8 but no apparent nodes were repeatable. I appreciate input on interpretation of the data. Rifle is a custom sporter, Stiller Action, 24" Brux barrel, Jewell trigger, Swarovski 5x30x50 scope, H4350, Berger105H, Shooting Chrony at 25', wind negligible, however shooter may be erratic!!. For reference POA is 1" dia and target 2" dia. Thanks

Whats the distance? And chrono numbers for each shoot would be helpful as well

I think you need to test at a further distance... 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 dont tell us much... retry and come back!

Id also reccommend shooting 2 rounds of each powder charge incriment just in case one wasnt loaded the same.. or shoot 2 ladders at 2 different targets...

I cant see anything here..

25 ft for a chrony is far isnt it? maybe depends what your measuring... I do 10ft or less to measure muzzle velocity...

10 11 and 12 also showed the lowest velocity spread of all the rounds. I would load the charge rate of 11 and play with seating depth for accuracy

Greenwood - take your ladder test out to 500+ if you can, and bring your chrony up to 10 feet. I am still betting your best node is going to be in 3010-3050 ish range :)

BTW...what was your load for shots 10, 11, and 12?

39.2,39.4,39.6 grs

According to his notes , he might just have a slower barrel.

Whoops....reading the notes might help :)

That node is looking pretty good, but I would still go further out and go a little hotter as well to test. My recent XC had a 24" barrel and needed 40 grains to put me in the node I mentioned above.

Side note....I will be heading out tomorrow morning to do initial load dev for my new unfired 6XC. I will update you and maybe something will come about that will help you. Tomorrow will just be 100 groups starting at 38.0 grains of h4350 and moving up to 40 in .5 grain increments and starting at .010 off the lands. This new rifle has a 26" Bartlein, so I am assuming that it will take less than 40 grains to get me in the node I am looking for.
