6XC Freebore

I am in the process of moving to the 6XC. My thought process is to run a 26-28 inch barrel, 1:8 twist, heavy palma. I will typically be shooting the Berger 105 Hybrid. The reamer that I have has a .90 FB. My question is will this FB allow a move to a 115 or 110 if I choose to try them. I only shoot steel for and paper for fun, but do want the best out of the components (and me). Thanks for any reply's.

we have been all threw this many times...lol...
It is going to depend on your lead angle. If it is a 1-30deg lead I think .090 is short..IMO
there is quite a few threads on this subject..But you will need to know the lead in angle.
I have a .104 1-30 in a 1-8 I like it but it works well with a 105 but not a 115 IMO.
I also have a 1-30 .160FB for the 115 VLD...I like it and have shot the 105's and 115's.
I think if you want to shoot both and you have a 1-30 lead you are going to want at least .145FB +
Let's see what the Experts say on this..as my experience is kind of limited.

This from David Tubb's Facebook page on Sept. 6th regarding chamber for his new 6XC DTAC 115 RBT

"115 Rebated Boat Tail reamer dimensions.

Since receiving the new DTAC 115 RBT's I have changed my straight section (freebore) to .140" with a 1 1/2 degree lead.
Neck diameter is still .278

If you stick with a freebore of .160" you just need to make sure you have a 2.850" or greater overall length in your magazine box."

FJIM and Zip, you are both saying what I have read up on. I have access to a .90 FB and a .105 FB reamers both with I believe 1-30 . I will probably not run the 115's, mostly 105 Bergers. However; the 110 SMK looks interesting. My DBM will accommodate 2.800 with the binder plate. I just tried to yesterday to run some longer bullets in it and had feeding problems, so if I am thinking correctly the .105 may well be my max to run the mag. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the guidance.

well that is what you need to know for sure..the lead in angle...the 105 work well with the 105's I use a .104 and I am quite happy with it in a 1-30 or 1 1/2 deg lead angle...I kind of thought most .090FB's were the other lead angle..I cant remember the numbers on it but it is shallow so it seems like a longer free bore.. So you need to know what the lead angle is for sure..You can run the 115's in the .104 FB you just have to seat them in the case farther..they will still shoot. the big idea was to keep the bullet just above the neck junction to keep it out of the donut area and maximize powder space..I am a big fan of this with any cartridge really..But you can seat them below the neck shoulder junction and it is not all bad...I have seen them shoot quite well like that...I have also seen them shoot well jumping .100 So don't loose any sleep over it. I run a AI clip 2.800..I think my loaded rounds are in the 2.750 area I have not checked them in a long time..maybe even shorter..I just checked one of my 115 I run in the AI mag they are 2.790 and that rifle has a .160FB I have no idea how close they are to touching..It shoots well....My 1-8 with the .104FB 105's are much shorter than that and I have not checked my jam in quite awhile. don't really know if this helps any but you will not have a problem with the 6XC in that 2.800 clip...

I have a .138 freebore and run the new 115 DTAC RBT .010" off the lands with a COL of 2.770".
1/8" twist 24" barrel running right at 3000fps with several different powders...almost 1000 rounds
through it with minor throat wear. I shoot BN coated DTACs and Hybrids out of it.

The Hybrids sit out a bit and allow for lots more powder, but one of my best accuracy
loads is 38.6gr H4350 running 2860fps. Ive shot a few .2s at 100 and it's a joy to shoot
with minimal recoil, easy on the barrel and I just use holdover with it out to 600 yards
when shooting for fun.

I have .145 freebore on 308 palma brass, with a .400 long neck. I am shooting a 31" bbl and 107g sierra's at 3270 with R#17 with a 450 primer. I have not shot the heavies because the 107's are shooting extremely well in this 8T X Caliber .236 bbl, .008 jump, .001 grip on the bullet.

Here are groups from 39.5-40.5 with R#17, cci 450, .008 jump

this barrel is boring accurate, no copper fouling till I got to 3270, then just a trace
