6XC dies

I placed an order for a Tubb rifle. I haven't reloaded in years and since the rifle won't be ready for about 6 months, I figured I'll be getting all of the reloading equipment I will need prior to it's arrival.

There is a new Redding Type S Match Neck Die Set 6mmXC 38745 for about $179.00, thru a company that sells on ebay. The 6mmxc competition die set that Tubb sells goes for over $250.00.

Can someone who has experience with this caliber tell me if the Tubb die set is worth the extra $70.00?

TIA.

My Tubb sizing die didn't match my T2K 6XC chamber.
The problem was over-sizing, -bigtime.
I don't know what happened there.
I ended up having a sizing die made by JLC Precision. This fixed the problem.

There is a headspace gizzy with Tubb's die set that's very useful.

I have had no issues with the Tubb 6XC die. In fact they are very unique. Tubb 6XC die flexibility

Redding has almost the full line of 6XC dies now. Everything but the competition neck sizing die. Check Sinclairs.

My two cents. Get the norma 6XC brass and don't screw around with fireforming 22-250 brass.

I agree with Anyrange. I have been using the Tubb 6XC die set for 1.5 years. I have had no problems with them what-so-ever! In fact, I like these dies better then any of the Redding competition neck dies I presently have,.223 & .308) I really like the latest generation of Norma 6XC brass. Norma brass is the only way to go. Andybull, I hope you enjoy your T2K as much as I have. I also have a T2K tactical in .308. I shoot it with a Harris bipod. Able to get better then .5 MOA everytime I shoot it,between 100 & 300 yds) When you get your T2K, learn to take off the barrel. It is easy. I just ordered a 6.5 Creedmore barrel from Creedmore sports,28", 8 twist). It will take about a month to get it. Can't wait. I hope this helps.

My son and I both shoot the 6xc. He has a Tubb T2K and uses Tubb dies with no problems. My rifle is a custom built 6XC for 600 BR. I'm using the Redding dies because I'm a poor boy after paying for his set up.,retired with limited income) Both guns shoot .2s and .3s with no wind. The run out on my loads average .001 less run out at the bullet. But I'm loading on a hand press and he is using a Dillon progressive loader?? We both use Norma brass and H4350 powder. We have our best accuracy with 105 gr Lapua and 107 Sierra bullets. The only problem he has had was loading the Tubb 115 gr. bullet. The 1st. round he shot the bolt stick. The problem was the chamber was cut for using 105s & 107s. If you seated the 115s past the donut area, per Tubbs)it was too long for the chamber and was jambed too deep into the lands causing high pressure. If he would have had lighter neck tensions, closing the bolt it should have pushed the bullet deeper in the neck and may not have stuck the bolt. The real cause of the problem was not checking out the bullet depth vs the chamber when setting up the dies the 1st time. He took another persons depth setting calculations that worked for his rifle instead of setting his own. We are learning.

Another thought, if the T2k bbl is a Schneider and a recent one, it may have a short throat. 2 causes, 1, dull reamer and 2, shorter throats have the apparent look of lasting longer. While I dont bother shooting the Schneiders, I did have my most recent one recut so the throat would work with 115s.

Do yourself a favor and switch bbls. I use Wilsons and Kreigers mainly, depending on what application I have for each of my T2ks.
