6XC chamber using 6x47 reamer

I have a question and wanted to throw it out to you guys on these really similar chambers.

I’m building a PRC rifle and was planning a 6x47 Lapua, but due to availability and cost of brass, I’m instead going with the 6XC. These calibers will feed out of an AI type mag much better than the shorties on the BR case. A friend has a reamer that he offered to loan my for the 6x47 and I don’t have all the spec’s on it, nor do I have the reamer in-hand yet.
But I found this old thread discussing how similar the two cartridges are and doing the opposite, chambering a 6x47 with the XC reamer.

It seems the XC is nearly identical to th 6XC 47 except .050” longer.

Would I be able to run the 6x47 reamer in deeper and get a good chamber?

I know I can order a reamer but PGT is way behind on shipping. I could rent an XC reamer but I just hate the hassle if my friend’s reamer could do the same job, same quality.

I think the XC is smaller in diameter at the shoulder than the 6x47, like .0055" or so.

I don’t know the answer, but I wonder if you could just use the 6x47L reamer and use a full size 6x47 die to re-size the new 6XC brass and then just trim the necks to the correct COAL? Then you would basically have the 6x47L that you wanted to begin with, except you might be using large rifle primers, depending on which 6XC brass you bought.

Rent the proper reamer. I have found the hassle to be minimal. You are likely to run into several minute but important differences trying to improvise.

It depends on your friends reamer, but the Lapua case has less body taper, wider shoulder before even reaching 6XC narrower shoulder distance. WAMBO and Walt are right. Get the right reamer.

Chances are Manson has a Tubb spec 6XC reamer available for immediate shipment.

It is set up for the 115's, so is a bit longer in the throat than I prefer for the 105 class bullets, but...

6XC II reamer is what you want

@AckleymanII, Can you describe the difference between the 6XC II and the others? Which reamer produces a throat better suited for which bullets? Also there are multiple different 0.243” 105 grain bullets, so please specify which ones if possible.
