6XC brass verses 6-6.5x47 Lapua brass

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does the Superior Shooting Systems 6XC brass have the same neck inconsistency issues as the Lapua 6-6.5x47? How are the Norma 6XC necks in comparison to the SSS and Lapua brass? There does not seem to be a lot of case size differences between the two, just the neck inconsistency of the Lapua and large primer vs small primer. Does that make a difference in accuracy or does the amount of powder charge dictate when to change primer size? Thanks, George

Anywhere you measure the Norma 6XC brass the runout is normally less than .001",base or neck it doesnt matter).
It is also a few points harder.

Why the large rifle primer over the small? Is it the amount of powder? I am trying to decide between the two and excellent brass is #1. Thanks for the reply earlier. George

I can't say I dispute that the Norma 6XC brass is quality brass with excellent uniformity, but I would not concur that it is as hard at the base as the Lapua 6.5x47 brass, maybe harder than the annealed neck, but not the base). For 600 yard loads with my 6XC I use fire formed Winchester 22/250 brass because I find it to be a good bit harder and more durable for 600 yard loadings than the Norma.

has anyone made 6x47 lapua brass from 6xc norma or 22-250 winchester or have any idea it will work with a little trimming?. I ask this as i might try the large primer of the 6xc or 22-250 in my 6x47. thanks

I take Norma 6XC new from the bag, seat a primer, load and shoot. It's as accurate as anything I have ever fired. I have measured the base after firing and it's the same demintions as before firing which leads me to beleave it's hard enuff. I have also fireformed RP and Win. and they both swell at the base before I get the velocity I want. YMMV........

Jasperjet,

I've made 6-47L brass using Win 22-250 brass. You'll have to trim a bit and then fire form. The question becomes is it worth the time and the extra rounds fired to end up with a useful piece of brass. I have no idea how many firings I'll be able to get as I'm only on the second now. Having more time than common sense, I also made 6-47L brass from a box of 308 Lapua brass I had on the shelf. It was more work than I care to do, a lot of trimming and neck turning. I did it as an experiment...it worked and it shot just as good as the small primed 6.5-47 Lapua brass that I necked down.
