I took a friend who had never shot long range or a scoped rifle with me last evening to shoot my steel. We drove to a recently planted soybean field and set out the steel, which is 8" across the face. Then we drove to the other side of the field (actually alternating strips of corn and beans) and set up my portable shooting bench. My friend had this very dubious look on his face when he saw how far away the steel was sitting. I ranged the steel with my 10x Bushnell Fusion rangefinding binoculars at 706 yards. I dialed in 13.125 MOA elevation and .5 MOA right (very slight breeze) and squeezed off a shot. I was extremely pleased to see the bullet smack just high and right of the center. I then handed the gun over to my friend. His first shot missed left, so I dialed in more right correction. His next shot missed right, so I took out half the correction. His next shot hit the steel and he was ecstatic. I then returned the scope to my original settings and took one more shot, hitting the steel between my first shot and my friend's hit.
My friend told me that I had made his day. And that of course made my day.
