6X47 Lapua Reamer Prints

Have a 6X47L that I can't get good results with, so would appreciate seeing some reamer prints from rifles that shoot well. The 6X47L was actually just a barrel replacement on one of my very good performing 30BR benchrest rifles, so I find it hard to believe that there is a rifle problem. Have tried 2 Rock Creek & one Bartlein so far, and none of them seemed to want to shoot. I had Kiff make my reamer with 70 to 90 grain bullets in mind for varmint shooting, but haven't been able to get consistent results. Any reamer prints that work well for this application, any load info or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe

Bullets.com sells a Pacific Tool and Gauge reamer and that print is available on their website. I bought one of these but have not used it.

I do own a 6x47 built by Lester Bruno( so I don't know which or who's reamer he used). It is Nesika KT action that has 9 twist Kreiger. I shoot 90 Scirocco's, or 95 Hornady SST's with very good results. Varget, CCI 400 primers 37.5 grns. w/SST, and 38.2 grns. Scirocco. Hunting rifle only but does shoot these loads well.

Good luck, Merry Christmas, Waverly

The 6x47 lapua is a little finicky but once I got to the velocity range it shot fine but mine was for the heavy 105 bullets my guess your throat is for the lighter bullets is your reamer no turn neck.

Joe,
Do you have a fax that I can send my print to tomorrow? Maybe I could scan it and email it. I lost your email when my old email provider went tits up.

After thinking about this a little more, decided it may be better for me to post a copy of my reamer print & y'all can tell me if you see anything questionable about it. Appreciate the comments so far. Thanks, Joe

Mine has shot lights out from the first 5 to the current 850 shots.

I own the reamer, only used once.

Ran only 105 Bergers and 115 DTACs trough it, with great success. Shot 200-6x on my very first ever 600 yard relay.

Extremely easy to tune. Shoots average of .25 MOA with most charge weights of H4831SC and H4350. Best 5 shot group at 100 yards is .108".

Be happy to email a copy of the reamer drawing, just PM me your email address.

Joe there is absolutely nothing wrong with your reamer for the bullets you are wanting to shoot how about a little more info on twist rate an velocity I think you have very good barrel choices if we can help with your dilemma on the accuracy we will.
George

George, I sent him a copy of my print. The leade and throat are a little longer than his. I don't think an additional .012" makes that much difference.

IIRC, all 3 of these barrels are 10 twist, which should be more than adequate for the class of bullets I want to shoot, with 87 V-Max being my 1st choice. I am admittedly a hot rodder & may be pushing too hard. Wondering if this cartridge seems happier with more moderate loads. Also, I have mostly tried loads with bullets jammed fairly hard. Thanks for the replies folks.

So, I take it that, when you load the bullet long enough to hit the rifling you work the load up with that over all length?
I have read many times that having the bullet up against the lands will move pressures dangerously high due to the lack of initial bullet movement.

Reading on the internet again, it must be true. Joe has probably shot more custom rounds in competition than about 20% of us put together. His loads are not the source of any problem that he may have.

Actually it is a paper that Barnes puts out on seating depth and pressure and it is in some of my loading manuals too.
I'm old enough to have a few years at this and know where to get reliable information. :)

Hey sheepdog, I develop loads with bullet into the lands for that very reason. Once I hit a max with that setup, anything else should be less pressure plus if they are already loaded you just seat the bullet a few thousandths deeper at a time to see what effect seating depth has.
I have looked at my reamer print vs some others & they all have very similar/same basic dimensions. I did notice that my reamer's chamber OAL is a few thousandths shorter than some others, so will verify that brass isn't marginally long. Other than that I need to drop my loads back & start over to find the sweet spots I think. Really appreciate everybody who has tried to help.

Reamer print sent.

As you noted, my F.B. is .035" further out, most everything else is the same.

So,
105 Berger BTT touch the lands at 2.640" OAL.
105 Berger VLD touch the lands at 2.718" OAL.
105 Berger HYB touch the lands at 2.775" OAL.

I load all my 105s and 115s .020" back off from the lands.

My barrel is a Bartlien 7.5 twist, and I run a relatively slow MV of 2830 fps from a 28" tube.
