I have been enjoying very good accuracy with my 8 twist 6x47 Lapua shooting 105gr. Berger VLD's and RL17. Today I decided to try some 80gr. Berger FB Varmint and RL17.
I was using CCI 450 primers and started at 41gr. RL17. Worked .5gr at a time up to 42.5gr where it started to show a pretty good crater and flatened the primer a bit. These top loads were running 3520fps. I backed off to 41.5gr where the primers looked good and loads averaged 3440 fps.
Groups are not what I am used to with the 105 VLD's. Most were around .75-.80 moa. I was mainly wondering if powder such as Varget would be a better choice for lighter bullets, or is it the 8 twist?
Any of you shooting the 80gr. FB Bergers with Varget? Starting load suggestions? I would like a bit faster load with the lighter bullets but just can't get over the accuracy with the 105's. Thanks, TB
