6x47 L Data

Well I finally got the new gun together and made it to the range Sunday. Now maybe this info will help someone else like so many of you helped me.
Rifle shot wonderful! Thanks Dave Bruno!!

Bart 70 gr 40 gr Varget 3595fps .229 Group
Sierra 70 gr 40 Varget 3550 fps .312
Sierra 70 gr 40 N550 3350 fps .182
Berger 70 gr 40 varget 3600 fps .632
Berger 70 gr 42 N550 3605 fps .319
Hornady 87 gr 39.5 RL15 3440 fps .611
Berger 88 gr 37.0 Varget 3181 fps .339
Berger 90 gr 40.0 N550 3314 fps .435

Wind was 10-15mph at 95 degrees. None of these loads showed any signs of pressure in my gun. These are reference only and should be worked up to from a reduces charge.

BTW the Rifle is a Bat Action, 28" krieger 1-10 barrel,Mcmillan Hunter benchrest stock,2oz Jewell triger, 12-42 Nightforce.

Rifle was buiolt by Dave Bruno in Pittsburgh PA, and was a real pleasure to work with!

Hey, Stoch great to hear the results. I too have the same gun that i am finishing built buy Dave. My action is a on Savage LVPR single shot, right bolt left port action. Got the call today that my stock is done. Hope to try some loads this weekend!!

I have no doubt yours will shoot as good as mine! Dave was a pleasure to work with, I was like an expectant father but he guided me thru the process.

Here is the latest data :

88 Berger 41.0 N550=3410 fps ES=36 SD=9.5 .209 group
I will try this load at 200 and 300 yds, it has potential.

Stosh,

This is great info. I still have not yet decided what cartridge I am going with on my new build. I am leaning toward the 6BR, but I am still considering the 6x47 Lapua. If I choose the 6x47 Lapua, this information will help out. Which ever cartridge I go with, I will be using 87 to 105grn bullets. I am using a Bartlein 28", 1-8 twist barrel, so I am going to use the heavier bullets.

The 87grn V-Max at 3440fps sounds pretty awesome for 0 to 500 yard shots on varmints. I am thinking the 6x47 Lapua will push the 105's around 3100fps. This is going to be a tough decision when I have to make it. The 6BR will push the 87grn V-Max at around 3050fps to 3100fps and the 105's around 2800. It looks like if I go with the 6x47 Lapua, I will gain about 300fps over the 6BR. Most of my shooting will be done from 400 to 600 yards, so I don't think I will need the extra speed and the 6BR will be perfect. However, it would be nice to have the extra speed too.

Stosh, where these loads high pressure loads?

6br,
I never saw any preasure signs with any of these loads in my gun. The bolt is butter smoth,no cratering of primer,no case head expansion. I could keep goin up till I saw some preasure signs but why? Pushing an 88 gr bullet at 3400 fps with one hole accuracy. Thats just as fast as the 6mmAI I used to own! Faster than a 243 or 6mm rem. So to me it encompases the best of both worlds,6br for accuracy, 6AI for speed, plus the big benifit of not having to fire form brass!

I have read where the cons are recoil well it does kick more than the br but with the brake I can still maintain mt sight picture. I guess the same arguments would apply between a 243AI/6mmAI vs the 6br.

I am ticled with the 6x47 but to each his own.
