6x47 build

I have a used 28" 8 twist barrel laying here and was thinking of making it a 6x47 and shooting 70 gr bullets for wood chucks. First thought was a 243 AI but after doing some research I am leaning towards a 6X47. Any input is appreciated. Also what recommended free bore. Thanks in advance.

I dont like a fast twist for those light bullets in a case that has enough capacity to over spin them. Ive never seen them shoot very good past 150 or so if the bullet even survives. Freebore should be in the .050 range btw.

I would recommend you run the numbers for an 87 grn VMax vs a 105 HVLD. The 87 may win initially but the 105 will take over quickly. I run a .093 freebore in my four, works perfect

Dusty, if you are not shooting an 8 twist these days, you may start having limp wrists, talking with a lisp, swinging your hips as you talk.

I just had JGS make a reamer with .035 FB and the 87g v max sits perfect in this case with the shank of the bullet right at the shoulder neck junction..6x47 Lapua. I want to shoot some 55g-58g bullets with this reamer on used 24" MHV BR barrels with 14 twists. It is hard to do it all with one reamer.

For shooting the 55's, I should have got a reamer with 1 1/2* leade angle starting right at the end of the case neck, but this would have been limiting for slightly heavier bullets, such as the 87g V max. However, 70g TNT, blitz king, and nosler ballistic tip would have been ok with this minimal freebore.

I have seen what the 70g TNT and Blitz kings do at 3700 and it is worth building a rifle around, especially when you get long barrel life.

Order your reamers with no throat... A throating reamer is cheap(er) and will allow you to do ANY FB you like. After chambering, measure a case in the chamber, seat a bullet in same case, ream throat till case with bullet is where you want it. Hell, send the reamer back to JGS, tell them to remove the throat, and send that and a separate throater back. Would still be cheaper than another chamber reamer.

From yesterday, 1/8 twist 6X45 new Brux 30" Shot with my old load from 26" barrel that just came off with a sling scoped rifle.

By the looks of the other web pages on your tablet you have alot of time between shots!!
