6×45 twist

Im am going to be putting together a 6×45 bolt action soon. I am not set on bullet weight just yet. Somewhere from 55 to 80ish. Im thinking on 22 inch length. What would be a good twist rate to get? This will be just for fun shooting and maybe some coyotes if i feel like it. Also going with a savage prefit so any suggestions on a barrel brand?

I just built one myself and used a 23" 1-12" Bartlein. I only plan to shoot Sierra 85 HPGK. Should be starting load work in the next few weeks.

I have a 6x45 bolt gun with a 10-twist Pac-Nor barrel that is 23" long. I'm shooting Nosler 80-grain BT bullets and Sierra 80-grain Varminter bullets #1515 just shy of 3000fps with 27.0grn of IMR 8208XBR powder. The gun also likes the Speer 75-grain HP bullets.

Ive been looking at the preferred barrels. I would like a criterion but they do not offer this cartridge

I must say it's the only reason I have the PB brand is they offered the 6x45 for the RAR. But not disappointed in any way.

My suggestion (just one opinion) -- get a 1:8" twist so you can shoot everything.

I have shot 60, 70, 80, 90, 105+ grain bullets all out of a 6BR 1:8" twist and they all shoot excellent. The Flat-base 80s went into basically one hole at 100 yards for 3 shots.

You might get a little more velocity with a 1:10" twist, but having the faster twist will give you the opportunity to target shoot with high-BC bullets at longer ranges.

Built a 6TCU a few years back, short free bore as I only planned on 55-80’s. I also went a 1-8” twist because it was available and the extra RPM with the varmint bullets may give more splat factor.

I have a 12 twist AR that I like a lot. I can shoot 75's in it but it likes the lighter flat base bullets better. Pretty accurate out to 300 yd or so. A 65 V-Max is about perfect.
the 6X45 is a great cartridge to shoot and very easy to reload, it is right at the top as a favorite ofmine

What would be the choice on prefit barrel brands. Right now that i know of for that cartridge there is shilen, xcalober, and preferred barrels. Thats all im finding for a savage prefit. I would like to go the prefit route

I have 2 x-caliber barrels, a 20P & 223, no complaints on either. The 20P has not shot anything I've tried in terms of various powder/bullet combo's over an inch. The 223 started out disappointing with the Speer TNT 52 large HP bullet, but when I tried vmax and varmageddon tipped bullets, accuracy expectations were right where I expected it to be. The 50g TNT hp shoots right with the plastic tipped bullets in the first round of testing I've done.

I have not ruled them out. Had a friend that got one bad from the get go. Was a blank that was fitted by a smith. Would not group. Bore scoped it and found bad section of rifling about inch in. Only person i know that has used them

I have a 1:7.5 Green Mountain 24" AR platform from Keystone. I use it for competitions; shoot 70s, 90s, and 107 SMK just fine.

Well i got the rifle today that im using for the donor action. Have not decided on the barrel quite yet.

I bought 2 shilen select prefit bbls ...a 1:10 and a 1:8 both savage varmint contour both 26 inch they both shoot great 1:10 loves 70 gr sierra and berger flatbase 80 and the 1:8 loves 95 sierra and 103 hornady....105 berger...107 sierra .......... bullets good luck with your build!!
