6x45 .223 AR Build

So I've been giving it thought for a while and have finally made the jump, after gathering all the needed parts the barrel being the longest wait but it's shown up this past week it's a super match 20" stainless ( threaded at 5/8 ), bat barrel extension, DPMS upper/lower combo, I like there stuff it is well made and sized correctly. we go thru these blueprinting all of the parts it takes a while but worth the effort. JP ent. bolt assy, and piston spring buffer, I like there parts they always work and fit right from the start. Timney 4# Trigger, what can you say there. Hogue over molded grip, forend, and stock kit like there stuff. going with a Vortex scope not to big 6.5x14 44mm, Burris QD mount we do a bit of work on these to lighten and make them more effective. all the weapon will be ceracoted a matte black and dark green so we are getting started have brass, powder, primers, bullets and dies were on let you know how it goes

I have built 5 6x45 on the AR15 frame and in the process of doing 2 more on Savage actions.
h335/aa2200/Xterminator powders are your friends.
Only 2 bullets needed for coyote 55g & 65g, both flat out drop them with e 55g getting 200fps faster speeds easy.
80-90g bullets for deer/antelope.
The above bullets have accounted for over 500 coyote and a few dozen antelope/deer out here.
55-65g perfect for 50-700 yards varmints.
I keep my antelope shots to 400 yards max due to energy loss drops fast after that.
I use BHW 20" standard & light profile bbls on the 6x45 builds, depending on who Im building for wants.
22" heavy sporter BHW bbls on the bolt rigs
I run the 3lb Velocity triggers in the AR15s which are the twin to the higher cost timney.
Keep us updated on your build & range targets.

we take the gas block and modify it so that is has an adjustable system, that can be field adjusted with a small flat blade screw driver thru the front of the forend, works for us we make it from stainless steel and screws in with a body and valve assy. another added feature we are making is a stainless muzzle break for the rifle. we have a design that we have used for years and use it on all our rifles and it performs quite well we don't call it a true break as most of the energy is directed to the front. the noise signature is dispersed out the front in a very narrow column that seems to confesses most game as to where the shot came from. thanks for the suggestions just left that part out

well it is done and we are working up loads right now AA2015, H322, IMR4198 and TAC have bullets from 50 to 85 and 500 cases all prepped and ready for powder so it will be a bit of range time next week working loads for this weekend and a bench rest match Saturday so we are off and at it

The 6x45 is a pisser in an AR!

IMHO, stay with </=70gr for the 2.260" magazine constraints of the AR-15. Going much heavier (a longer bullet), and the bullet really starts infringing on usable case capacity when seated to mag. length. It not that 85s won't shoot great (they will), but you're choking out velocity just to fit/feed them from an AR. This makes no sense to me for a case with marginal capacity in the 1st place, hence my opinion...

Might not net the most speed, but 2015 is a GREAT powder. For the 70s, should end up within a few tenths of 25 grains and tiny little holes in the target.

The Sierra 60gr HP is a wicked accurate little bullet, and surprisingly tough on coyote sized critters. Pelt friendly @ 6x45 speeds, too...

Benchmark will also work well for the lighter bullets.

H332/ H335 will make the speed if you wanna push the issue...

Have fun!

well the first round will be with sierra bullets and 2015 powder 55bking and 60varmiter the loading are all the same start at 24.0, 24.3, 24.6, 24.9 and 25.2 with 25.3 being max load in there tables these are my ladder sets I believe the final loads will be near 25.1 to 25.3 so this come week is range time as I have three weapons to take out the 6x45. 223 and a 708 for tests thanks for the input fredo

Best velocity powder for me in 6x45/6TCU and 6BR for lightweights (55-65) by a large margin was Accurate 2200. About the only ones I hadn't tried were LT30/32. 2200 was 200 FPS better than the next best.

So out to the range and the target backing are at 330 m for the service rifle shot that morning so I had to go with that set up but it looks real good to me after we got on paper the av f/s was over 3000 for the last set of shots high being @ 3090 f/s with no pressure signs so we are working upo a set of loads in between these. here's some target scans for the day
