6x45 & 1569 shot.

I can't complain with my Savage build in 6x45, 1/10" 24" McGowan SS select bbl.
The above rests in the original plastic stock. Scope is a wallymart 4-16x Centerpoint scope.
My 200 yd coyote target from today.
Bottom left, 65 g vmax .700"
Middle, 65g vmax .570"..........both at 3053fps
Right w/55g CT bullet, .640"....3214 AV fps
26.1g Exterminator, WSRP in both loads
1 shot at 16x, 2 shots at 4x. Bipod front & walnut bag under butt.
Nothing fancy, but its still my best coyote loads.
Still sub moa to 400 yds also. Im at 1569 rounds through it so far. I need to write neater in my log book...lol

Re: 6x45 & 1200+ later

5spd, sounds like you have that 6x45 dialed in. I have a Savage with a 26" 12T Shilen select match barrel and any thing between 60gr-70gr and H322 @ 200 yards and about 3150 fps equals 1/2 MOA or less. It's really a blast shooting it.

Re: 6x45 & 1200+ later

h322 always did the best in my 10 twist 6tcu with bullets to 80gr as well. it would do 3450 with a 65vmax and 3650 with the 55bt. I settled on the 60gr sierra at 3600 and it shot tiny groups. rebarreled with an 8 twist now.

NICE !!!
Mine is doing pretty good with the 70 SMK's and CFE 223.
Not shot is across the crony yet but going to soon.
Love it so far...

Kermit,
Id about bet your 70g load is running 2800-2900 fps plus a tad.
When I was testing the 70g nosler BT it was running 2973 w/aa2015...very accurate also.

I use a moderate load and seat the bullet a little long, about .030 off the lands & grooves, to prolong the life of the brass. This barrel has a longer than usual throat about .100 which gives me plenty of space for powder. I used a chrony when I first got the barrel but haven't use it on this gun sense.

5spd, If you have or can find any AA2200, try it with those 55 grain bullets, it will really wake those velocities up. I can get in the low 3500's with it and a 55 Ballistic Tip without exceeding the reloading data or having any pressure issues. This runs right with Western Powder's data. Also the accuracy with this load has been outstanding. I have not shot any bullets heavier that 65 grains yet. I have really been impressed with this caliber as the velocities and accuracy has been excellent with just about every bullet and powder combination that I have tried. I built this rifle on a Stiller action with a 12 twist Lilja barrel.

Shot my 70 smk's the other day across the crony and the first 5 averaged 3102. They are shooting real good and I don't think I'm going to change'em.
I've laoded some 58's and they were in the low 3000 range, might up the powder or change it and try'em again.
Seems like it'll shoot about anything I put through it so far as far as groups. I'm a happy camper so far...LOL

Great shooting!
I'm thinking about a 6x45 barrel for an AR, will be interested in further reports.
My 1st 6x45 was in the AR15 form I had built & was accurate, but in a bolt its even more so to 700 yds!

Not to get too far off topic, but have been looking at barrel lengths and gas systems for an informal range/close quarters deer rifle. Any suggestions?

In an AR15 I'd stick w/20" max, bolt gun I'd start at 22", My bolt is 24" and is easy to carry all day even w/the varmint bbl.
My next 6x45 bbl will be heavy sporter and 22" though.

I have an 18" barreled AR in 6x45 with 1 in 8 twist. It will flat out shoot the 85 grain V-Maxes. Mine has a rifle length gas tube and cycles great.

I'd go with a 1:9 twist 20" - rifle-length gas system would be a bit smoother.

slight resurection of a dead thread here.
Magnumwill, How fast are you shooting the 85gr v-max?
I think he means the 87g VM and Id bet its about 2800 in the 18" bbl. In my 24" it spits them at 3002 Av fps & runs at .650" @ 100yds.
