6x284 with 24 inch barrel?

I am wanting to build a 6x284 rifle with a 24 inch barrel for predator hunting. Thinking number 1 or 2 contour on my short 700 with high tech specialties lightweight stock (currently a 243 win). What velocity could I expect and how much would I give up compared to 26 inch tube? I don't want another 243 I want more Wampum. I also thought about 6x47 what do you think? Thanks Stretch

The 6x47 is no slouch as it is almost the same or better than the .243AI cartridge. You will loose about 50 fps. The 6-284 is a great cartridge but in a light profile, you will have to let it cool between shots.I dont know exactly the difference is between the 6x47 and 6-284,but I think the latter is alittle hotter.

The latter (284) is right much hotter and I don't think the performance it brings in a short barrel will justify that much more powder, you'll be getting diminished returns.

The 6.5x47 and 6mm versions of it have shown to work well in the shorter barrels, yeah you may lose a tad of velocity but the efficiency, not to mention barrel life, will be much better.
