6x284 questions

Has anyone done a 6x284 short barrel 20-22”,considering building one for a hunting rifle to shoot 90g accubonds or ttsx, looking for any and all info I can find especially which powder for short barrel

The short barrel negates the larger powder capacity of the 284 case. You need that length to burn the powder. Just go 243 for what you want.
^^^^^^^^ this.
I had a mdl 7 made for a walking gun in 6-284 20" bbl. BIG waste of money. I wouldn't go less than 26-28" anymore 28 to 32" is what I have now. No they are not set up for walking. The 243 or similar, or 6BR Varieties would be my choice for a shorter barrel 6mm.

Does the bra or 243 do better in shorter barrel

I'm looking strictly at usable powder burn in the short barrel. Even the 243 could use a longer barrel (I have two 20" barreled walking guns. One in 243 the other in 243 AI) When the AI gets cooked I'm going with a straight 6 BR.

Out of curiosity what bullet and velocity did you run in that 20” 6-284 model 7

I don't have my notes handy, but I believe it was around 3275 and 3350 with 87 v-maxs and 88 bergers. That was kinda pushing it too.

I cut down a 30 incher to 23 inch just for a switch barrel carry gun
Approx 3100 fps afterward
I agree to the advice of just make it a 243 if going that short
But I mean, theres no law against it right?
I did so only so I could use the same brass etc between 2 guns
Anyway, I used the same load combo of H1000 with heavy bullets between the two and it worked well.
but preferred RL22 & 95 gr bergers over the heavies in the shorter barrel.
