6x250

Picked up a cheap 6x250 700 xtc gun a couple years ago and stuck it in the safe. Have slowly been tinkering with it between finding dies, brass etc, have only shot a couple pressure ladders in the last year. Got some Lapua 22-250 brass and eps 106 bullets and an old keg of XMR4350 sitting on the shelf. Initial test ladder last year was 36-38gr, but 36gr proved to be the functional max. Also tried some Shooter World Match rifle, 33-36gr and 33 gives heavy clickers, both were in RP brass and Hornady 108 blems.

Yesterday I loaded up 33.5-36gr of XMR (0.5gr steps) in the lapua brass and eps 106 and finally got some meaningful data.

33.5 was 5 rounds for fouling and zero (low shot was cold bore and a suspect primer) looks like 33.5-34.5 is where I'm going to explore more. But next I'll test seating depth before fine tuning charge.

All shooting was done from a Harris bipod and rear bag.

You gotta start somewhere. More info on the rifle.
I built a 6-250 a while ago, 1:12 twist barrel for shooting 70g-85g bullets. I'll dig up some load info.

Mike

Its just an old 700, jewel trigger, sako style extractor. Dropped it in a 40x rimfire stock. Currently has a Sightron 36x scope and Harris bipodfor load development, but will be fitting RPA sights for any/any category. Barrel is unknown cut rifled maker but is 1:8 twist.

What dies are you using?

I have used H-4831SC, Varget & H-4350 successfully with 107/108gr, 1x8 barrel, with Win 22-250 brass & H-4831SC the most accurate Used Lapua, not worth the extra $s.

The reamer used has a .120” freebore, never tried lighter bullets.

Sorry, I have Redding dies.

Mike
My 6-250 is for carmints…..12 twist, 0 freebore. Brass is Pmc 22-250 necked up and 250 Savage necked and turned. Date on my reamer is 7-96 so it’s been awhile. No die’s available back then but yoca improvise. 22-250 bushing fl dir with 6 mm bushing works fine. Seater was made with Redding 6tcu comp die and slider rechambered to 6-250. Took some doing but nothing else available back then

…for varmints, not “carmints”

Forgive a stupid question but what are the differences between a 6-250 and the 6xc?
Shoulder Angle of,.. 28* vs 30* for the 6 XC and maybe, a tiny bit, Less Taper.
The 6 XC has a Longer Neck than, the 6 MM Creedmoor and uses about, 3 Grains of Powder LESS.
They are all great Rounds for Varmints and Targets ( Bullets and Twist, dependent ).
I really LIKE,. My Med Heavy Barreled, 10.5 Pound,.. 6 XC !
It's a 1-7.5 Twist and shoots 80 gr. Var / Targ., Berger's Up to, the 107 SMK's and, 108 gr. Elite Hunters,. TINY !
