6SLR barrel life

Blair,
I've got just over 2k on my current barrel and it is still shooting really well. It is fairly ugly in the bore scope, but I can't argue with the scores it will shoot. I am just sort of playing it by ear to see when it needs to come off, don't want to push it too far. I pulled the last barrel at around 2400, I believe, and only because I wanted to switch from coated to non-coated bullets. It was still shooting great when I pulled it, and I have no doubt that it could still win if I put it back on. Ive only had the 2 barrels so far, so not a ton of info there, but hopefully a little better than none. I think Russ T has gotten over 3k on one or more barrels, hopefully he will chime in.

Whats bullets/velocity are you running?

Liseo,
The current barrel has been all 105 hybrids at 3160 fps. In the first one, I used the Hbn coated 115 DTACs at around 3050. Both loads shot very well.

Thanks Erik! Mine has about 900 + rounds on it and was wondering about the timing for the National Matches. I was thinking about using it for mid-range as well as long range this year so the rounds are going to pile up pretty quick shooting around 2 matches a month. Probably gonna need to replace it before heading to Atterbury. 49 X's Wednesday! I'm impressed! Good job young fella!

My 1st barrel a Brux, 2,900 rounds, was still shooting decent, Won the X-Miss match at Port Malabar. Pulled it shortly after that when I checked and couldn't touch the rifling with bullet seated in a case but it was still shooting well. 2nd barrel was a door-prize and it didn't hold up at all. On my 3rd barrel now, 1,700 rounds, still shooting great. Thinking this one, I may have set back when it gets to 2,000 rounds but not sure.

Was thinking that 1500 would be about average, but looks like it may go a bit further than that. 2000 plus is pretty darn good for a 6mm.

That's pretty fast! I am doing load workup with H4835sc and at 44.2 grains 105vld, I was at about 2978fps. I think there is room to go up, but I won't know how high until I get there. Probably no more than 3075, but I don't know yet.

Erik,
did you have Randy Gregory chamber your 6SLR? I talked to him a couple of years ago when I was looking to get one done and he didn't have a reamer and wasn't real keen on buying one. He did one of my .308's and his work is my first choice but I had to send my action to someone with a 6SLR reamer.

Yeah, Randy does all of my rifles, he's the best in the business as far as I'm concerned. I have my own SLR reamer though, so that's what he uses on my barrels. I believe he was planning to get his own so you might want to check with him again.

Like I said he is my first choice. When the time comes, if he doesn't have one i'll get my own. This barrel will last forever at the rate i'm getting rounds downrange though. WE should stop talking about him though, I hear his backlog is getting bad these days. good for him, bad for us...

have you tried one of his barrels?

I haven't tried one, but only because the timing hasn't worked out where he had one available when I needed one. I know enough shooters that have had great results with them that I wouldn't hesitate to use one. You're right though, we are only hurting ourselves by speaking publicly about him!

Just started out with mine. 2840fps with 43.5 AR2213sc (H4831) in Winchester brass. I'm planning to stay with single base powders and moderate speeds. So far so good.
