6SLR - 110 SMK

So I have decided to build a 6 SLR. I need to decide on a freebore for the reamer. Trying to shoot 110 smks at mag length but I can't find any data. Seems like I will need to open up the magwell. If you have a SLR and shooting 110s what reamer and oal are you getting? Thanks

I know nothing about the 6SLR but the first thing I would do is build a dummy round set up at the max OAL that fits your mag box. I would then make sure that didn’t put the bullet bearing surface below the neck shoulder junction. Your gunsmith can use your dummy round to set up your chamber.

I've been shooting the SLR since it's birth, but never at mag length. I have included my reamer print, but I throat the chamber to keep the SMK 110 in front of the donut area. I hope this helps,

Lloyd

Yes thanks I was wondering the same thing. I have loaded two dummy rounds and it looks like the 105 Berger could work with an oal less then 2.860 but the 110 smk will require opening up the feed ramp. This is my first wildcat and want to talk to my gunsmith intelligently.

I too am wanting to build a 6SLR and also have the same question. So which reamer should one use (or what freebore) in order to be able to feed from a standard length Rem 700 SA?

1shot, you mentioned "seating above the donut area"... I thought this was supposed to be a no neck turn, no donut cartridge? At least with WW and Rem brass.

@jfjohn77,
You are correct in as much as Rem. and W-W don't see the problems with the donuts that Lapua does. When you push the shoulder back, Lapua is thicker in that area. I stopped using inferior brass several years ago and my scores took a huge jump up. I have a large stash of Lapua brass so I can't comment on Peterson brass at this time. I turn all my brass for consistency reasons, so in my world there is no such thing as a "no turn" neck.
Throating above this area will also increase your usable powder capacity, but if your magazine feeding, it's a moot point.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

I tried shooting the 110s out of ai mags, i have a .134 freebore chamber. With about 1000rds on my barrel i couldnt get anywhere near the lands and still fit in my mag

I haven't tried the 110SMKs, with 105s or 107s you want about a 110 freebore. and you should still have some room to chase the lands.
