6ppc what would you do?

I have my dad’s Stolle panda right bolt left port it was chambered by speedy back in 1998 or so. My dad fired this barrel no more than 100 rounds breaking it in and was saving it for his retirement. It sat in a safe until 2012 when he passed away. I have the rifle and have loaded 25 rounds and shot it one time since his passing. It sits and doesn’t do anything and now with this circus that is now our lives going on I’m not sure that I’ll ever do anything with it. I have contemplated selling it and everything that goes with it because I don’t have any bullets, or and not enough primers to load for it and use it. Plus the BR games near me have pretty well fizzled out. What would you do? I haven’t made up my mind, it’s been over 8 years since he passed, I’m not sure I’d regret it.. I also thought about rebuilding it into something I could use on a regular basis, but the stock is wrong and I talk myself out of it because it would be a money pit..

I just don’t know what to do.. not a super interesting topic, I’d just like to hear some opinions because this is definitely a niche, highly specialized rifle for one purpose..

I quit BR 3 years ago. Since I started BR, the closer match venues have been cut by 75%. I have one more Panda LV left among some Remington bench guns. I too am on the fence about getting out while the gettings good. If you were not impressed by shooting that action, I would offer it up soon before the crap hits the fan. For me, I know I should sell now, but I know I would miss working that action and shooting "X"s. But when the bullets, primers, and powder run out do we hang them over the fireplace to remember what once was?

what do you like to shoot, most would say keep it as it was your dad’s and speedy did a chambering

BUT if it has been 8 years how much longer before you really lose interest

just asking, not trying to get under your skin

the more info we have as to what you are thinking the better suggestions we can give you

well if it were me---- Im a guy who places sentimental value on things and I would on that rifle. So I would take it out and shoot it alot. Since it was my dads i wouldnt ever sell it. I am still interested in seeing how good I can shoot. i would see if i could shoot out the barrel on that gun. Some guys dont feel attached to something like this at all and ive seen them selling their dads guns without a second thought. Thats ok-- its different for each person. if you have no interest in shooting it and it doesnt have any sentimental value Id defineately sell it like has been said.

I’d probably do a 6creed or dasher in a chassis or a McMillan stock to shoot steel plates and play the long range games not the run and gun stuff but the sit at a bench and prone kinda stuff.

I'm one to hang on to stuff because of emotional attachment. I've found that moving on is really the best for me. Doesn't solve the feelings but it allows me to live a bigger life.
Rebarrel or sell. That rifle could carry on the dream in someone's life.

I think that we subconsciously keep track of everything we own or are responsible for in our lives and it weighs on us. So when something feels heavy - like it's there and you're noticing that it's not doing anything to enrich your life - then that's a good time to sell it. Lighten the load and create room for something that will make you excited. The buyer of your dad's rifle will be excited and it will add to their life. By the sounds of it, I don't think selling it will subtract from yours.

It doesnt sound like that was his signature rifle he had forever and would never sell it. Thats the one you gotta keep
His signature rifle, was sold a few years before he passed.. but I do have 3 that were important one nylon 66 and a marlin 39 and a 375h&h mag whitworth that he had as far as I can remember, and one very special Remington 1100 he bought new the year I was born. The BR gun is a special one but it’s something that has pretty well passed in a way.. after getting a call from an old friend I decided to try and find some bullets and get after it once more. So we will see

Order some Barts bullets, the website says they are 4-6 weeks out. That should give you some time to find primers and powder. If you can load well enough to make this gun shoot to any where close to its potential, and see the groups it is capable of you will be addicted. At least i was. Don't you think you owe it to dad to at least try?

I can load for it, I used to have my own speedy barreled rifle back then. I could out shoot the old man.. but he would spend the time to tune the load and then I’d just copy his. I still remember we shot 29.6 N133 with a 68gr euber or speedy bullet. I’m gonna give it a go an old mutual friend of ours called me and told me of some poker chip matches which sound like fun.

If you do decide to sell the rifle, how about giving some new shooter a good deal on it? I would bet your Dad would smile down on that choice.
