6PPC Custom Dies

Hi Dusty,

I just called Barts. i put an order in for flat base but I wanted to be sure if I should get those or boat tails.

Cheers,

Jim

if you like Redding 77211 (small base) full length bushing die will usually work,,,you will need a bushing of appropriate size to match the neck dia/brass thickness that is necessary for your gun,,,usually get the bushing ,006 smallet than the ND ,,,turn the brass to .003" smaller ,,,,I prefer the "Wilson" brand bushings because they are tapered and can be inverted (numbers down) to tighten up the squeeze ~.0005 ( half a thou),,,,,Roger
PS ...Listen to Al Nyhus,,,he is a seasoned benchrest shooter,,,,

I have to say that the Benchrest folks are some of the nicest folks I’ve met in the shooting sports. I just got off the phone with Bart and have 1000 bullets heading my way. He took the time to explain how he does his load development and we chatted about other shooting techniques. Thanks to everone who has posted. I hope to meet you at the range someday.

Youll never know the difference. I use both and wont hesitate using either at any time. Barts flat base bullets are the best out there (so are the boat tails)

You will find Bart's flat-base to do the trick with your LT-32. It is easier to make a "perfect" flat-base bullet than a boat-tail, so no surprise why the flat-base shoot so well. When you fire your first bullets to blow your cases out, I'd suggest seating your bullets long so that you get a bit of resistance when closing the bolt. Use a load that is about 10% off max for powder. Having your bullet "at jam" will go a long way to seeing the cases are blown out all the way, making the die fitting by Harrell's perhaps a bit more accurate. If your case isn't expanded, you may get the next-size-down which will, in essence, over-work your brass every time you resize. The folks at Harrell's are nice and their dies are definitely among the best "non-custom" ones out there. Good Luck!

After giving all my rifle details to Bart he suggested going with the boat tail Avenger bullet so that is what I ended up with. I am researching load development and have learned about Jam in benchrest shooting. I have always found the lands but never Jammed the bullet to avoid high pressure. So this is another new aspect to reloading that I need to explore. Thank you for your comments.
