A fellow shooter is thinking of rebarreling his 6ppc Hall action with a 8 twist barrel to shoot 105's or 107's out to 500 meters. Has anyone else done this ? If so, successful ?

I USE THE 6PPC TO EVAUATE MY BLANKS BEFORE I CHAMBER TO SOMETHING BIGGER.THIS WAS A 8 TWIST SHILEN.THIS BARREL AGGED .198 FOR 5 GROUPS AT 100YDS.THE LOAD WAS 25.6GRS BENCHMARK LAPUA 7.5S 105VLD .060 FREEBORE.I DID NOT TRY IT AT DISTANCE BUT I WISH IWOULD HAVE.THE BARREL AGGED A 2.4 AT 600 IN DASHER FORM.I HAVE A RAIL SETUP
There are a few other things he could do also.
Either have the bolt face opened up a tad to be able to use both the ppc and the br cases. Then he could use it either way.
He could then chamber it in 6br 6 dasher or the 6ppc.
The trick is to not open the bolt face larger Then he had to.
The second way is to make a br and turn the rims down a tad to fit the ppc bolt. It has been done many many times.
Nothing wrong with a ppc with the heavy bullets either.
The advantage may be more velocity with the BR.
Just my nickels worth and i hope it helps.

Larry Bartholome did just this in the early days of US F-Class and used heavy bullet 6PPC out to 1,000yd with considerable success. But ............. there's the Larry B shooting skills factor here and it was early (pre 6.5-284 and 7WSM) days.
Obviously, the barrel has to be throated as per 6mm BR Norma with lots of freebore to allow 105-108gn bullets to be seated well out.
However, as other people have said, 6BR is a better option for long-range if the bolt-face can be opened out slightly for the larger case-head. I'd certainly never advise anyone to build such a PPC from scratch unless the action was sitting on the bench looking for a job.
