6ppc .272 no-turn

I've just put a 6mmbr pac-nor on my savage bvss-s. I can't believe how my first trip to the range was. Outstanding..
I'm wanting to try a 6ppc but want to stay with a no-turn neck for the obvious reason. I'm not going to compete with others with it. It's just a starter 6ppc for me. Anyone out there tried or no of people who have tried this .272 neck? My target shooting is done from sand bags on a bench from 100-300yds. Should my upcoming 6ppc out perform my 6mmbr? Thanks tootalloutdoors

I seriously doubt you will see a significant improvement in group size from the BR to the PPC in anything other than a BR rifle. Even then it wouldn't be more than a slightly larger agg. than the PPC. If competing, you want the smallest agging capability you can get. I have a varmint rifle that I had built many years ago and its worn several barrels in several calibers including the BR and the PPC. I'll bet that if I averaged all the targets I've shot with the 2 cartridges, the outcome would be real similar.

Ive got Fred Moreo at sharp shooter supply suppling the douglas barrel and another bolt. I've got another savage comming in the mail as we speak, a mod.12fv in a 223. That action is going to start the 6ppc project. Barrel, bolt, trigger, stock, and away we go. I'm starting to really like playing with savages.I've thought about building a benchrest rifle since that is where my interest is heading but I don't have the time to travel to matches at this time. So right now I couldn't see getting $3,000.00 worth of use out of it.Although I did learn on this site that 100 miles away in Missoula Montana there is a range that has matches. In fact the president of the range is in my home town. There are probably some local stuff here that I will locate as time goes on. tootalloutdoors
