6mmppc usa in 6 mmppc

was wondering if you could damage a 6 mmppc rifle if you chamberd and fired a 6 mmppc usa cartridge.would this damage the rifle even if chambering was easy and accuracy good .thanks

I am not sure of the differences and have measured my 6PPC usa against a straight out 6PPC and there was only a couple of thou difference.Maybe someone on here could explain the difference and i am sure it won`t hurt the rifle as the loads etc are all the same.

I thought at first that maybe this was a trick question but I guess not. The SAKO 6PPC USA is a 6PPC. Just like the R-P 243 Winchester is a 243. There may be minor dimensional differences between the SAKO case and the NORMA case but no more so than the difference between a Remington 243 and a Winchester 243.

You have to remember that the "6PPC" used by most all Benchrest shooters is a 220 RUSSIAN case fireformed to "6PPC" and was/is originally a wildcat. It is now in that gray area of, is a wildcat still a wildcat after a major ammo company starts making new brass with the correct headstamp????

i fired sako factory loaded 6 mmppc usa ammo in my rifle to get brass for reloding.anyway after the second reloding and trimming to the correct lenght ect the brass would no longer chamber in my rifle any idea why.my rifle is just 6mmppc not 6mmppc usa.

I think you are making this a lot more complicated than it is. There is no such thing as a 6PPC USA chamber. Your brass is probably starting to stick because it needs to be re-sized. What are the particulars of the rifle?

i think you are right but i have resized and trimmed my casses to the correct length and still they dont fit the neck diameter of my cases is .268 i have been told they must be .262 for a standard 6 mmppc rifle either way for some reason they no longer fit. .also in in vhitavori reloding manuel it says never fire a 6 mmppc USA case in a 6 mmppc rifle am so confused.

Sako chamberes a rifle in 6mmPPC-USA. Case dimensions are a bit bigger, or should I say tolerances, so there is definitly a 6PPC-USA chamber. Although the difference are about the same as between a Dasher reamer from PTG and someone else. The PPC-USA is a commercial chamber whereas the PPC is a wildcat.

I fired about 200 cases of Sako PPC-USA in my 6PPC .262" chamber and had no problem. You WILL need to full-size the brass after every firing, as after two firings they will start sticking so much you may gall your bolt during extraction, hammering it open). The Sako PPC-USA brass is softer and holds about 3gr less powder,so more pressure when you use the same load as in a 220R PPC).

I don't mean to be arguementive but, "a bit bigger" than what? The SAKO chamber is a SAMMI standard chamber and will accomodate any standard 6PPC ammo including those that have been neck turned. "6mmPPC SAKO USA" is merely a headstamp.

If wolf chambered and fired his ammo more than once and now it won't fit it's not because there's a problem with the chamber. He needs to resize. If it went in once it will go in again.

Wolf - what the Vit manual is warning you about is trying to fire factory ammo in a tight neck chamber. This is a standard warning when dealing with any ammo that may be used in a tight neck chamber, whether it be a 30-06, 6mmPPC, or whatever.

Cheechako, the point that the USA is a SAAMI chamber is what I was trying to make clear, plus I mentioned full-sizing because I had the same problems with Sako PPC-USA brass ;)

Max spec SAAMI cases may not fit in your wildcat PPC chamber, not counting the tight neck).

We agree.:)

You need to find out what part of your fired case is too big. Base, body, shoulder, neck? Resize it,or them) and everything should be back to OK.:D

Wolf, what are you loading with for dies? If you get this streightened out I have a set of Wilson streight line dies that I havn't used in 20 years that you are welcom to. They are in great shape and only been used for one season. If you want them you will need an arbor press and the proper size bushing for your chamber. The best way to tell just what you have is to make a cerrosafe cast of your chamber and mike it, it is very easy to do. There is definatly a difference in the two chambers, very little, but a difference. The USA chambered gun that I had shot very well, I admit it was a custom Stolle action that I bought used while I was having a gun built, but the cartridge will surely shoot great in the proper gun. Let me know what you are doing on this thread or by email, the email will be quicker if you would like to try them. bobbeyer@hotmail.com Good luck Bob

thankyou bbeyer for your kind offer but i am afraid that i do not have an arbour press and it will be a while before i can aford i am using redding 6 mppc usa dies.my friend does a bit of gun smithing and usually can find a reason for everything asked if i had adjusted my dies correctly i thought they felt right but with so little reloding experience i could easily have made a mistake .i am taking the dies and casss and rifle over to him on monday and hopefully get this problem fixed.but thankyou all for reasuring me i thought i may of been damaging my rilfe by firing 6 mmppc USA casses through it i was releved to find this was not a problem.

I tried to avoid "building" my own brass from 220 russian and ordered some "6 ppc" brass, IT WILL NOT CHAMBER, i was told this is for the PPC USA chamber which IS different.

I've had to buy 220 russians and create ppc brass for my rifle.

I'll attempt to process the factory brass later but for now i'm making them. I was pre warned that the two were different.
