6MMBR

Hello, My name is Ike Hartman and I'm here to try and get some help with a load for my 6br. I bought the gun used and in very good shape but I was told it will not shoot 105 bullet's. The gun has a 24inch rook creek 1-9 twist barrel a Bat mod m action and a jewell benchrest trigger 1.5oz trigger also a McMillen edge stock. I am pretty new to benchrest shooting and this 6BR forum is great. The owner of the rifle shot 95gr bergers and did well but I want to use this gun for Pa groundhog matches and want to shoot 105s if possible? Do you think this twist is good for hog shoots? I wood like any help I could get. thanks alot Ike

sevenfal,

The 9tw will not shoot the 105 VLD Bergers. It will shoot the 95 Vld's and may shoot the 108 BT. I think it may shoot the 105 Hornaday. Other good bullets are 107 Sierria, Lapua 105. The 9 tw will be on the egde for must of these bullets, other guy may have more info.I have not shot the 108 Bib's, they are made for the 9tw, I have shot the 95gr Bib's in my 10tw 6BR, they shoot great.

If it want shoot the heavier bullets, then look to the 95 gr Berger, and 95gr Serria. Berger is coming out with a 100gr. BT. The Berger 90gr. BT, and 90gr Lapua are very good long range bullet.

Other light bullets and good too. Berger 88gr and 80gr. Don't get stuck on shooting one bullet, there is a lot of great 6mm bullets out there. Some times the Vld's can run you crazy then they don't shoot good.

Good luck

hello again thanks for the answers to my question on bullets for the 6BR the load im shooting is 32gr. varget, case is lupa and trimmed to 1.550 inches im using CCI 450 mag primers, bullet is a 95gr sierra match king. as I said before the gun is new to me and I think it will do very well once I find what it likes. thanks again sevenfal

Dwight, I think you will have better luck with bullets between 80 and 95g, and they will be good out to 600+ yds. You may need to play with the bullet seating depth to get the best accuracy, as well as the powder charge.
No one can tell you what will shoot the best in your rifle, you need to determine that through trial and error, and good record keeping.
But Varget and 80 to 95g bullets, is a great place to start. And only make one change at a time, or you wont know what helps and what doesn't. This process may take some time, but we all have gone through it, and it pays off in accuracy.
Mike.
