6mmAR

Spoke to Robert Whitley about the 6mmAR as a repeater in the Remingon 700 factory magazine and he only said he had never done it and therefore could make no determination.

Thanks

The 6mmAR was designed for an AR chassis that has strict magazine length/size limitations. These restrictions do not apply to a bolt action, so why would you limit yourself to a 6mmAR when you have the world to choose from?

What's not to like about it? It's a .075" long PPC. Lapua makes great brass for it (6.5 Grendel) with SR primer pocket and small flash hole. Capacity is right between a ppc and br case. I think it's ideal for the mid weight 6mm bullets. Throat it accordingly.--Mike Ezell

I want to build one in a benchrest rifle.( 6mmAR.) im working on planing it, throated for the 65-68gr custom's.
I think it would have to shoot well. the 6ppc shoots the 6BR shoots at least mine does. so i think it will shoot and could be easyer to keep in tune with a few different powders. My 6BR"s have shot to ppc level accuracry and can do it with several different powders and a wide range of bullets,i think its because of the velocity the BR can produce that allows a bigger tune window. Im just not sure i could out shoot a 6ppc that was in top tune and humming..like say one that was agg'n in the .160's.. now i can agg in the .180's to .230's with the 6BR,which is very good and competitive enough to shoot group but if you get some ppc's that are humming im just not 100% sure the 6BR can win..but im still shooting it..lol...so i was thinking the 6AR is kind of right in the middle so MAYBE it could hit right at the end of the ppc's tune and just hum. so im building a new 6BR right now,,and a 6Dasher so as soon as they are done im going to set up a case, reamer, barrel..Like to have a new action/stock for it. but if i cant will just spin a barrel for one of the ones i have, but it will be late next year by the time this happens..
Its alot of $$ to do it , cases, dies, reamer, barrel. guess'ta'ment $950.00 thats without the new action&stock.

One option would be the CZ527 carbine rifle in 7.62X39. I built one of those into a 6.5 Grendel and the factory mag feeds that round just fine.

I just picked up a 7.62x39 CZ 527 with the intention of rebarreling to 6mmAR. I really like how my 6mmAR shoots in the AR platform, and have decided on that chambering for the CZ, rather than the 6.5 Grendel.
